Sol¬ den where they came to escort the re¬ mains of their late comrade, Corporal, William Travers, to his last rest in-.' place. With slow and mournful tread the company under the cominnnd ol Captain W. A. Hankins wended their Way to the Sharon Baptist Church at Which place the funeral was preached nnd afterwards to the Mechanics OOattO tary where they deposited the remains, Owing to the fact that Company A was ohort of ammunition. Volunteers from Company C, who also turned out to -pay their respects and formed the sec¬ ond plstoon stepped forward after the grave was covered and fired thre: rounds over the grave of their depart- od comrade Corporal Travers was very ponular .hela in high esteem by both officers and members. Company A deserves much praise for their charitable act in assuming all responsibilities towards tko burial of its member. WHIT MONDAY. Last Monday being Whit Monday therefore, according to the agreement made by the following clubs of the Bast End, namely, Lincoln and Messiah Associations, Little Dove, Lily of the Valley, Rose of Sharon, Union Bloom of Youth Clubs paraded the principal streets of the East End and Jackson Ward and thence made their way to the colored cemetaries. The members composing these clubs were very hand¬ somely attired. The Messiah Ass- tion carried a large and beau*ifni ban¬ ner on which was painted a portrait of the Savior, whi'e the portrait of Abra¬ ham Lincoln surrounded by a crest and wreaths of flowers was painted on tho Banner carried by the Lincoln Associa¬ tion. The floral tributes were very beautiful and each elub carried a large bunch in their hands, there were be¬ tween twenty and thirty carri nares more or less, Ailed with males and fe¬ males, officers of the clubs, and other important personages, many of whom carried large Ho ral design**. Altogeth¬ er the parade was an excellent one. THB OBJECTIONABLE FKATfRBS. The parade in itself was a good oli¬ nothing whatever to say contrary to that. Last Monday being Whit Mondaytherefore, according to the agreementmade by the following clubs of theBast End, namely, Lincoln and MessiahAssociations, Little Dove, Lily of theValley, Rose of Sharon, Union Bloomof Youth Clubs paraded the principalstreets of the East End and JacksonWard and thence made their way tothe colored cemetaries. The memberscomposing these clubs were very hand¬somely attired. The Messiah Ass-tion carried a large and beau*ifni ban¬ner on which was painted a portrait ofthe Savior, whi'e the portrait of Abra¬ham Lincoln surrounded by a crest andwreaths of flowers was painted on thoBanner carried by the Lincoln Associa¬tion. The floral tributes were verybeautiful and each elub carried a largebunch in their hands, there were be¬tween twenty and thirty carri naresmore or less, Ailed with males and fe¬males, officers of the clubs, and otherimportant personages, many of whomcarried large Ho ral design**.
