St. Thomas: his doubting gave way to faith when he saw the risen Lord; associated with founding the Church in south India; mentioned in the Roman Canon; patron of builders, India, and Pakistan.
St. Anthony Zaccaria: doctor turned priest; popular preacher who founded in Milan the Clerics Regular of St. Paul for the reform of society; sought collaboration between the clergy and the laity; promoted frequent communion. St. Elizabeth of Portugal: queen and mother; lover of the poor; peacemaker in the royal family; patroness of Catholic charities.
St. Maria Goretti: at twelve was attacked by neighbor who tried to defile her; fought rather than submit, he stabbed her repeatedly; she forgave him before dying shortly after; was canonized 1950; patroness of teenage girls.
THE RICHNESS OF LIFE IN CHRIST Today we have the beautiful story of the woman promised a child, wonderful exhortation about life in Christ, and a powerful instruction from Jesus. An embarrassment of riches? Not if we take Jesus' words about "welcome" to heart. The many challenges and blessings offered to us today by Elisha, Paul, and Jesus should be cause for rejoicing, and welcomed heartily into our lives. And, like the great treat that they are, they should be enjoyed and shared generously with others. • Today's reading from Romans was chosen very early in the liturgical life of the
Church to be the sole apostolic instruction received by candidates for baptism at the Easter Vigil. This illustrates its importance as a core belief, and as a means of comprehending the story of the Resurrection. Christ's resurrection is not merely a story about something that he underwent once upon a time, but it is our story, the story of how we joined the other members of the one Body of Christ, the church. We were not only dead, but we were buried; not ultimately buried, but raised to eternal life with Christ.
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Elisha promises a baby son to the hospitable woman (2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16a). Psalm — For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord (Psalm 89). Second Reading — We shall live in newness of life as Christ was raised from the dead (Romans 6:3-4, 8-11). Gospel — Whoever gives but a cup of cold water to another will surely be rewarded (Matthew 10:37-42).
Baltimore Catechism
Q. Why are holy days instituted by the Church? A. Holy days are instituted by the Church to recall to our minds the great mysteries of religion and the virtues and rewards of the saints. When we celebrate every year the feast of a saint in the Church, it keeps before our minds his works and all that he did for God and the church, and makes us anxious to imitate his virtues. The feast day of a saint is generally the day on which he died; because that is considered the day on which he entered into Heaven-the day on which he was born into the new world.
Q. How should we keep the holy days of obligation??

Dress for Mass Warmer weather in many parts of the country
means wearing lighter, more casual clothing.
Still, something that could be worn to paly a
sport, clean the garage, or work in the yard may
not be appropriate for Mass. God deserves your
“Sunday best” even in the summer.
