FIRST SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS - SUNDAY 27 DECEMBER 2020

Isaiah 61.10 - 62.3; Psalm 148; Galatians 4.4-7; Luke 2.22-40

The prophets Simeon and Anna have been waiting their whole lives to give the message in today’s Gospel reading. It is obviously of the greatest importance.

In his blessing of Jesus the prophet Simeon proclaims the positive, overall significance of Jesus. This is the salvation prepared before all people. The theme of salvation is resumed by Luke at the very end of his second book, The Acts of the Apostles, where Paul states that this salvation of God has been sent also to the Gentiles.

Simeon’s statement sets out the message of the story - Jesus is to be the glory of his people Israel, and then light of revelation for all peoples.

We thank God that His grace is available to all people.

Give thanks for the work and witness of Kerina Evangelists’ College in Papua New Guinea

We all love a celebration, but this year has been a bit challenging

and we have struggled to find reasons or ways to celebrate. BUT

that said, most of us have still managed to smile and laugh and

celebrate life’s special moments in some form.

It is often in the more difficult times that we see the best in humanity rise up and

shine through the darkness. The love, the hope, the joy, they are all found in the

small moments.

These are the things that the birth of that tiny child shares with all of us as we move

into a New Year with our faith in our hearts. May your journey with him continue

throughout the year and allow you to share his love with others along the road.

Blessings

Fr Peter

A New Year’s BlessingA New Year’s BlessingA New Year’s BlessingA New Year’s Blessing

As we begin a new year help us give thanks for all that is important to us; our family, friends and community.

Help us to find peace and calm in our lives and let go of the things that bind us.

Help us to embrace new beginnings and to shine God’s love and light in the dark moments.

Father, bless all your people everywhere and share with them the fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23)
