Resistance list

Important information on the resistance list

1.1 Suitability of the hose

The suitability of the hose is mainly determined by its resistance to the chemical product to be trans-ported.

Even when used properly, adequate resistance, however, does not mean unlimited service life and maintenance of the original features of the hose either. Due to the impact of many materials to be transported, the swelling, shrinkage and penetration of the hose material as well as chemical reactions may occur, affecting the features of hose and mate-rial to be transported.

In general, these processes take place the faster and more intensely, the higher the operating tempe-rature, the operating pressure, the flow velocity, the abrasion, the duration and frequency of the impact, the age of the hose as well as the contami-nation of the chemical product to be transported.

The information provided in the resistance table are thus only reference values.

They are based on laboratory tests of plastic and elastomer compounds generally carried out at room temperature, on literature references as well as on experience. Chemical suitability tests were not carried out for each case. If the operating company considers the information provided to be insuffici-ent, individual tests must be agreed upon with the manufacturer.

1.2 Deviations from chemical products

If other chemical products or product mixtures than those listed in the table are to be transported or if the quality of the composition, e.g. the concentrati-on and temperature of the chemical products, devi-ate from the information provided in the table, the manufacturer must be consulted prior to the use of the hose line. Or, if applicable, a special chemical suitability test must be carried out for the respec-tive application. The suitability assessment of hoses and hose lines for a specific application can only be made on a case-by-case basis.

2. Resistance of the fitting materials

The information provided are reference values. They are based on experience and were taken from relevant literature. In individual cases, slightly other concentrations and additions to the material to be transported may already significantly reduce the resistance of the metal materials. If no experience is available in this respect, individual tests must be carried out or significant corrosion must be ex-pected.

3. Testing hose lines

We recommend a test interval of just a few months.

All information provided in this resistance list is considered unbinding information, also with respect to any proprietary rights of third parties. They do not exempt the user from testing the products delivered by us themselves for their suitability for the intended individual case either. We reserve the right at all times to make technical changes as part of ongoing development.

- Information on the suitability is not available

REMARK: Important suitability criteria of the hose are changes in volume, hardness, strength and elongation. They can beobtained from the manufacturer of the hose.

(1) Mass fraction

(2) Material group of the inner hose layer

(3) Product-wetted part of the fitting

TR Technically pure

(d) C-St: Carbon steel (Kohlenstoffstahl)

polymer abbreviation (4) Material for the inner hose layer and typical applications Recommended colour coding forthe outer hose layer

NBR Acrylonitrile butadiene rubbers Hoses for mineral oil products of all kinds up to 50 % aromatic contents, up to -30 °C. Yellow

NBR 3 Hoses for food. White

EPDMTerpolymers made of ethylene, propylene and a diene with an unsaturated diene inthe side chain

Hose with high resistance to esters, ketones, lyes, selected solvents and non-oxidising acids, not oil-resistant.

Purple

UPE Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene

Universal chemical hose, resistant to approx. 95 % of all media occurring in the chemical in-dustry. Particularly suitable for acids, lyes, solvents, mineral oils, organic compounds such as alcohols, esters and ketones. Not resistant to heavily oxidising acids (nitric acid), chlorofluoro-carbons, tar, asphalt and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Blue-white

FEP FluoroplasticsUniversal hose with almost identical good features with respect to its resistance to aggressive chemicals such as PTFE. Not resistant to aliphatic amines and alkali metals.

Red-white

Teflon® / PTFE PolytetrafluorethyleneHighest chemical resistance to aggressive chemicals. The few chemicals corroding the hose tube include: chlorine trifluoride, fluorine gas dry +150 °C, oxygen difluoride, phosgene gas and mol-ten alkali metals such as sodium.

Composite SST (PTFE / VA)Composite film layer design with a hose tube made of PTFE and an inner helix made of stainless steel

Temperature-independent flexibility and small bending radii together with good chemical resis-tance.

Composite PGE (PP / St-PP)Composite film layer design with a hose tube made of polypropylene and an inner helix made of galvanised, polypropylene-coated steel wire

Temperature-independent flexibility and small bending radii together with good chemical resis-tance.

Table footnotes and hose tube material groups

(4) For the abbreviations, please refer to ISO 1629. Remark: Within a material group, the features vary within a certain range. This may depend, for example, on the polymer type, the mix-ture ratio and the vulcanisation process.
