Quick Points• G1 Nursing Station renovation

began in Sept and, when completed, will look the same as G2 area.

• We continue to work with our Leading Edge consultant on LEAN efficiencies related to our compliance findings. Staff on

Georgian One were engaged in many new initiatives to help create streamlined efficiencies and processes. We will be on the other units soon.

• Family members are asked to please remove your loved one’s summer clothing and bring in

warmer clothing. You should bring at least six seasonal outfits of clothing. Storage is limited, therefore families should be prepared to store off-season clothing and are responsible to keep the room free of clutter.

Residents made a trip to Shady Lane Farm in Wasaga Beach. Right, once in a while Mother Nature puts on a show! We were so lucky to witness the Solar Eclipse on the Collingwood Two patio on Monday August 21. For almost an hour, residents were treated to the sight of the moon passing between the earth and the sun. This amazing sight was made possible by the purchase of NASA approved Solar Eclipse glasses. As the solar eclipse took place over the familiar sight of the Blue Mountains, everyone expressed their amazement at the wonders that we have in store every day if we stop and take the time!

Our Commitment to YouA Message from Jane Sinclair, GM, Health & Emergency Services

e hope everyone has enjoyed their summer and are relishing in the fantastic fall weather

and beautiful autumn colours. We are excited to bring you the

most recent updates about what’s happening in your home, as we continue working diligently to ensure the highest quality of care for our residents.

Resident and Family surveys were distributed during our summer months and results will be coming to you shortly. We really appreciate your feedback and look forward to working on how we can continue to improve and provide the highest standard of care and services for your loved ones.

We are also pleased to share with you our success in the Georgian Village Adult Day Program receiving a Seniors Community Grant of $2,952.80 from the Government of Ontario to support seniors within

the community to stay connected through social events and activities. The Program featured community events that engaged seniors and the local community with fellowship, families and social interaction including barbeques, entertainment and activities throughout the summer. Was a fun filled summer for all to enjoy!

In September of this year, we received approval from the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN to hire a full time Registered Nurse to support the use of Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) in 29 long-term care

homes across this region, including our own four (4) homes. OTN is a video network system used in hospitals, long-term care homes, and for residents in the community to make it easier for individuals to receive treatment from medical specialists without having to travel long distances to see them in their

offices or clinic settings. Physician assessments

and care can be provided directly from

our homes to ensure residents receive timely

and effective care. If you think this technology might assist your loved one,

please speak to a nurse in your home to find out more

about this helpful technology. With such wonderful weather

upon us, my best wishes to you, your families and friends for a wonderful fall season and look forward to bringing you more updates in future.

The Men’s Woodworking Program was created so the men of Sunset Manor would have the opportunity to get together to work, create, relax, chat and “pop a top”! Every other Thursday the Men get together to sand, drill, measure and level projects. They chat and reminisce and, when the work is done, a cold near beer is the finishing touch on a job well done! Projects completed so far are two children’s picnic tables and a bird house.

Dates to Remember• November 11 – Remembrance Day Service• November 25 – Annual Christmas Craft and Bake Sale

• December 5 & 6 – Annual Resident / Family Christmas Dinners at 6 PM.

Here Comes Flu SeasonPlease remember to be diligent with hand washing and avoid visiting if you’re sick. Flu clinics will be provided for residents and staff. Remember, hand hygiene is the single most important means of preventing the spread of germs. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer stations are strategically located throughout the home, including entrances, exits, elevators and dining rooms. All visitors are encouraged to use them upon entering and exiting the home and the resident home areas.
