(3) Reserve the ordinances following the Church policies, including the 110 year rule, and then print the Family Ordinance Request (FOR) that is used to print the individual ordinance cards. How to Find Ancestors Who May Need Temple Ordinances: Start by signing in to www.familysearch.org/tree with your LDS Account username and password. You will see your tree in one of four views, typically the Landscape view. Any of the views can be used to find ancestors needing ordinances. 1. The Landscape View is a horizontal pedigree where a husband and wife are shown together (Couple Box) with lines connecng them to their ancestors (right) and children (leſt). The temple icons will indicate the ordinance status of the family in couple box. a. With no temple icon, the ordinance work for the couple and their family has been completed. b. There may be ordinances that can be requested. c. More informaon is need before ordinances can be requested. d. The ordinances are in progress, they have been requested but not completed. Clicking each of the icons will provide informaon on the current status of that family as shown in the examples below. Click “Expand” in the upper right corners to see even more detail. How to Find Ancestors Who May Need Temple Ordinances: Start by signing in to www.familysearch.org/tree with your LDS Account username and password.

1. The Portrait View is a vertical pedigree with same icons used in the Landscape view. Follow the same instruction as listed with the Landscape view section on page 1.

2. The Descendancy View is a vertical list of a person’s

descendants. This view is the most helpful when searching for and qualifying individuals for Temple Ordinances.

a. Select the number of generations to view at a time. b. Click “Show” for an explanation of the icons. c. Expand and Collapse the tree view to find

an ancestor of interest. d. The “Request Ordinances” icon can be different

colors, representing the ordinance status.

Request Ordinances Ordinances in Progress Needs More Information The other Icons are used in qualifying

an individual.

e. Click the “Expand” link to chose a different person to display in the top position of the chart.

f. Choose which person you want and click “Select.” 3. Temple Tab: Look for a red circle with an asterisk after the word “Temple.”

If there is one, FamilySearch scans back as far as your great-great-grandparents, also looking at each of their spouses, their children, and their children’s spouses. If your family tree extends further, you can find those ordinances by working in Family Tree.

a. Click “Temple” link. b. Click the “Opportunities” link. c. Review the found opportunities.

Tip: How to select another individual in your history of viewed persons to be in the main position of the tree.

d. Click the “TREE” drop down. e. Select a name from the list.

How to Qualify a Name to Take to the Temple: Qualifying includes adding, correcting, and confirming information using sources,

standardizing dates and places, checking for duplicates and merging them when needed. Using the Descendancy View is a great way to help qualify the individuals who may need Temple Ordinances found in Step .

1. Use the Descendancy View and click the “Show” drop down menu to select what you would like to see in the view.

2. Click Portraits and Spouses to switch between showing them or not. The icons (a to d) to the left will show on the Descendancy View when checked. Click the check box to remove the check mark so they don’t display.

An example of each icon follows:

3. A Person’s Details Tab can provide research hints and suggestions. From an individual’s “Details” tab on their “Person” page you can also receive: a. Record Hints b. Search Records (Searches the c. Possible Duplicates Church’s vast record collection.)

Check each of them as well as those suggested in the Descendancy View as they can be different.

When you have verified, added, corrected information as required, and added sources to support your revisions, be sure to check for possible duplicates. There is a Library Quick Start Guide on merging duplicate records to assist you.

How to Reserve the Temple Ordinances After qualifying the individual you have selected, you can reserve the ordinances in a number of ways:

1. From any view or page, click on the link of a person’s name to open their Summary Card. The example below is from the Fan Chart View.

2. Click any of the ordinance status buttons. 3. The “Effective Ordinances” screen will appear. Verify there are ordinances to request. 4. Click “Request Ordinances.” 5. If Permission is Required (110 year rule), you must “Request Permission first” to continue.

6. Fill out the form and click “Submit.” You will see a request submitted box with a case number. When permission is approved, you will be able to continue.

7. After approval or for those not needing permission, select the ordinances you want to request, then click “Request.”

8. Click the statement confirming your compliance with the Church’s Temple Ordinance Policy, then click “Add to Temple Ordinance List.”

9. Click the “Temple” link to see your reserved ordinances.

10. You can select to view those printed, not printed, or shared with the temple. 11. You may sort or filter by NAME or ORDINANCES.

12. You can now “Share” your reserved ordinances with “Family or Friends” as well as with the Temple.

13. This is where you can print the (a) Family Ordinance Request form (FOR) which is used to print the (b) Temple Ordinance Cards either at our library or any temple.
