Poverty in Sudan Conflicts, droughts, floods, disease and illiteracy are

all factors contributing to poverty so Sudanese ended a 21-year-long war by signing the Agreement in Jan 2005 and still working on implementation of the agreement (southern & north ) and now look to solve Darfour Conflicts because this Conflicts directly led to many people leaving their homes and becoming refugees .

Sudan began exporting crude oil in the last quarter of 1999. According to the latest figures, Sudan exports around 500,000 barrels per day.

Sudan is committed to the realization of

MDGs and will spare no effort to achieve them. By examining various official planning and policy documents,

Page 9: Republic of the Sudan Ministry of Social Welfare WOMEN & CHILD AFFAIRS Income generation & poverty reduction for development course Sudan Report

there is clear reference to the MDGs and the

aspiration of the country is to achieve the goals within the

timeframe specified in this regard. This is evident both at the overall national level and sectoral policies and plans. Further, the MDGs have been the central theme of the Poverty Reduction strategy Paper (PRSP). The efforts of the Ministry of International Cooperation (MIC) have been focusing on advocacy and reporting on progress towards implementing and achieving the MDGs. However, this effort of the MIC should be expanded to a clearly spelled-out implementation arrangements and identified institutional structures including other government bodies mandated with the task overseeing the implementation of the MDGs .

The Government’s objectives include disseminating vocational education and training in all states to reduce the number of unemployment .The Government know that to Achieve the MDGs is based on shared responsibilities among major stakeholders . It requires many combined and complementary efforts from : international agencies, local authorities, private actors and civil society organizations. civil society actors, especially those working closely with or advocating for poor people have to articulate alternative views on poverty . These include a brief examination of the role of advocacy group’s community-based organizations and a broader social movement has to under take on poverty related issues in the Sudan .

Sudanese civil society Civil society actors and NGOs begin to turn their

agendas towards policy advocacy not least in response to the consultation focus of the government’s poverty reduction strategies. At best, this required developing new capacities and methodologies for action, as civil societies and NGOs they have to spread their focus from one space in the policy process to another. their networks have to also focus on issues such as : the environment, rural development and micro-finance all this by partnerships between government and civil society also a number of economic, commercial and technical assistance agreements concluded between Sudan and the international community through bilateral and multilateral agreements.

Sudan and development partners (international institutions, the private sector, civil society, and the world’s scientific and technological associations ) work to put the MDGs at the center of national plans and achieve the poverty reduction strategies.
