Report on Two-Day Workshop on “Emerging Trends in Quality Education in Institutes of Higher Education” Organized By IQAC, BLDEA’s Vachana Pitamaha Dr. P.G. Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology, Vijayapur, Karnataka and approved by NAAC, Bengaluru. Coordinators: Dr. M. I. Sakri, Coordinator-IQAC Asif Momin, Coordinator- NAAC, and Dr. B.M. Angadi, Mechanical Engg., Dept., Venue: Seminar Hall, Library Complex, BLDEA’s Vachana Pitamaha Dr. P.G. Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology, Vijayapur Date : 22 nd and 23 rd February, 2019 The workshop was inaugurated with invocation song by students of the college at 10.30 A.M which was followed by ceremonial lighting the lamp by the Hon’ble Chief Guest Prof. V.V. Malagi, Registrar Evaluation (retired) Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapur, Dr. V.P. Huggi, Principal of the host institute and other dignitaries present. Dr. M.I. Sakri, convener of the workshop briefed the audience about the objectives of the workshop. Gathering was welcomed by Prof. Asif Momin. Inaugural function concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. B.M. Angadi. First session on 22 nd February 2019 was by Dr. V. V. Malagi, Professor of Education at Akkamahadev Mahila University, Vijayapur on the topic “Emerging Trends in Higher Education”. Dr. Malagi explained to participants about the present status of higher education in India and current trends. Followed by the first session, second session on “What, Why and How of Quality in Higher Education”, was handled by Dr. M.I. Sakri, IQAC Coordinator. Dr. Sakri explained to the participants the concept of quality in higher education, why the institutes should worry about the quality and what tools can be used to improve the quality in institutes of higher education. Dr. Vishnu Shinde, Assistant Professor, Department of Studies in Education, Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapur delivered a talk on “Role of Teachers in Providing Quality Higher Education” in the afternoon session. Dr. Shinde elaborated on the crucial role played by teachers in improving the quality of education in institutes of higher education. On second day of workshop, a talk on “Reforms in Assessment and Evaluation in HE” was delivered by Dr. Prakash Badiger, Assistant Professor, Department of Studies in Education, Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapur. Dr. Badiger, emphasized on the importance of assessment and evaluation in improving the quality of higher education.

First session on 22nd February 2019 was by Dr. V. V. Malagi, Professor of Education atAkkamahadev Mahila University, Vijayapur on the topic “Emerging Trends in HigherEducation”. Dr. Malagi explained to participants about the present status of higher education inIndia and current trends.

Followed by the first session, second session on “What, Why and How of Quality in HigherEducation”, was handled by Dr. M.I. Sakri, IQAC Coordinator. Dr. Sakri explained to theparticipants the concept of quality in higher education, why the institutes should worry about thequality and what tools can be used to improve the quality in institutes of higher education.

Dr. M.T. Telsang, Dean, Sanjay Ghodavat University, Kolhapur delivered a lecture on “OutcomeBased Education” in second session. Dr. Telsang explained how the philosophy of OBE can beeffectively utilized in improving the teaching-learning process.

Participation certificates were distributed to all the participants during the valedictory function.Participants expressed their satisfaction about the topics and resource persons and theorganization of the event. About 100 participants from Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing,Arts, Education, Polytechnic and Management institutes participated in the workshop.
