FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL-Sept 4

Hello Westside Families! As we enter April, we sure are leaving March with a bang! We’ve had such fun at school over the past few weeks. We had another FANTASTIC walk to school event despite the COLD temperatures. We are so blessed as a school community. We had so many staff, students and parents attend! We are already planning a May 9th bike to school event that should be just as fun. As we get closer we will share information with you. The same week as our walk to school event we had 3 different choir concerts and all were fantastic. Our 3rd and 4th graders performed during the school day and at night. There were drums, dancing, fiddling and of course amazing singing. For those of you who didn’t know, our kindergartners performed the next day. We had a huge turnout with parents, grandparents and siblings! The kindergartners crushed it! Can you believe they were singing AND dancing!? It is hard to believe that those were only 5 and 6 year olds. We are so lucky to have such talented children and music teachers. I realize that when people think of the Kimberly Area School District they often think of our athletic programs, but our music program is 2nd to none at the elementary level! April also means state testing for our 3rd and 4th grade. Not quite as exciting as walking to school or choir concerts, but important nonetheless. At Westside we view these tests as a way to gather more information about your child and our goal is to use it to better help them learn. We hope all of our students perform well on these tests and we encourage you as parents to make sure they come to school well rested those days so they can give it their best effort! I hope you enjoy your long weekend, and as always feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Warm regards,

Jonathan Peterson
