Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great Saint Gertrude had a deep empathy for the Church suffering, the Holy Souls in Purgatory. At every Holy Communion she beseeched Jesus for His mercy to be bestowed on them. During one Holy Communion she experienced the descent into Purgatory with Our Lord. She heard Him say: "At Holy Communion I will permit thee to draw forth all to whom the fragrance of thy prayers pen-etrates." After Holy Communion Our Lord customarily delivered more Souls than she had dared to ask for.

One time when Gertrude was praying with great fervor for the Holy souls, she asked Our Lord how many Souls His mercy would release, He answered: "My love urges Me to release the Poor Souls. If a beneficent king leaves his guilty friend in prison for justice's sake, he awaits with longing for one of his nobles to plead for the prisoner and to offer something for his release. Then the king joyfully, sets him free. Similarly, I accept with high-est pleasure what is offered to Me for the Poor Souls, for I long inexpressibly to have near Me those for whom I paid so great a price. By the prayers of thy loving soul, I am induced to free a prisoner from Purgatory as often as thou dost move thy tongue to utter a word of prayer!"

Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the following prayer would release 1,000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was later extended to include living sinners as well.

“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the uni-versal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.”

A PRAYER FOR THE FAMILY

Jesus, our most loving redeemer,

You came to enlighten the world

With your teaching and example.

You willed to spend the greater part of Your life

In humble obedience to Mary and Joseph

in the poor home of Nazareth.

In this way, You sanctified that family,

which was to be an example for all Christian families.

Graciously accept our family, which we dedicate and

consecrate to You this day.

Be pleased to protect, guard and keep it in holy fear, in peace,

and in the harmony of Christian charity.

By conforming ourselves to the Divine model of Your family. Amen

BLESSING OF BABIES: Parish members are invited to participate in the Blessing of Babies where expect-

ing mothers receive a rose and a blessing from Father. Families can then place their rose under the church’s statue

of Mary & continue to pray the blessing along with the entire parish until birth. Each rose possesses a holy medal

which can then be presented at the child’s baptism. Father asks that families, mothers, fathers, grandparents, fami-

ly members who would like to celebrate this new life to call the parish office at 653-2963 and set up a time for

their baby’s rose presentation & blessing.

MATCHING DONATIONS: Did you know that your employer may match your church contributions up to a

certain amount? Superior Essex of Hoisington is one employer that does this. Check with your employer and get

“more bang for your buck!” It’s VERY easy to do, call Loretta for more information.

JUST A REMINDER…...if you have had a member of your immediate family (parent, grandparent, child,

grandchild, or sibling) pass away from another town/parish and would like a sympathy put in the bulletin, please

call Loretta to give her the information. We will be happy to put this in the bulletin.

PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY: O God, our creator, from Your provident hand we have received our right to

life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as Your people & given us the right & the duty to worship You,

the only true God, and Your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power & working of Your Holy Spirit, You call us to live out our

faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light & the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask You to

bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind & heart to readily defend our freedoms

when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of Your Church & the freedom

of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons & daughters

gathered in Your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood & every danger

overcome—for the sake of our children, our grandchildren & all who come after us—this great land will always be “one na-

tion, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen!
