Rehoboth: Review
• Rehoboth was initially established in 1997 as a Christian organization working in the rural area in educational development.
• The trust changed its name and its work focus in the year 2000 in response to the AIDS pandemic to concentrate on caring for children living with HIV/AIDS. The trust is now an Interdenominational Christian organization caring for orphaned and abandoned children living with HIV/AIDS.
• In January 2002 Rehoboth purchased a 22 acres farm in the rural area close to the Murchison location, a large community where HIV infection levels are approaching 40%.
• On this farm a complete Children’s Village was established in 6-years time: 11 houses housing 5 children and a housemother.
• In 2009 Rehoboth set-up a Midway House in Port Shepstone to raise the older teenage boys into mature adults. Plans are made to build a second village in 2010.
• Rehoboth has fulltime housemothers for each house with a backup reliever for her time off. Each house operates as a normal household (food, laundry, etc). Central services provided on site are a baby crèche and a pre-primary crèche for early childhood development. Additionally we have a high care medical clinic on site, a multi-sports field and a swimming pool. For the school age children private schooling near town is provided. Lastly we have a high quality accommodation on site for our International volunteer’s program.
• Rehoboth operates with a paid staff, including a social worker and a supervisor for the children’s program. Management and several other activities are performed by (inter)national volunteers.
• Rehoboth is active in the UGU Aids Alliance, a network organization active in the region. Best practices and information is shared among ngo’s and other organizations.

Rehoboth: support
Funding:
Rehoboth’s Child Sponsorship Programme, Jabulani Child Sponsorship, is the main funding source to cover operational expenditure. We have currently programmes running in the UK, Canada, America, South Africa and The Netherlands. By sponsoring a child Jabula, joy in Zulu, is given to the child and sponsor. The sponsor is regularly updated about the child and the financial means are fully utilized for the 5 Way Holistic Childcare Programme. Allowances from public authorities and local fundraising fill up the funds needed for exploitation and development of the village, Midway house and the new village.
Support:
Operational: We have a funding gap of about R1,500.00 per child per month (equals: 200 USD, 140 Euro or 125 GBP per child)
Development: Funding towards developments items (e.g. houses: R400,000 each / furniture & fittings for each house: R40,000)
People: Rehoboth is in constant need for highly motivated, talented and skilled volunteers to come and help make a difference to our special children
