Like any certifi cation program, the benefi ts to the members who pass the certifi cation tests are

based on the recognition of achieving a level of competence in the fi ber optics fi eld. For the

end user looking for competent fi ber optic personnel, it is the knowledge that this person has

demonstrated knowledge and ability in the fi eld and, perhaps even has documented experience.

For the vendor of fi ber optic products, it off ers a technically-qualifi ed pool of employees as well

as contractors to recommend to end user customers who need to fi nd installers for their networks.

And, of course, surveys show that certifi cations generally lead to higher pay and faster career

advancement.

This introductory 3-day (24 hour) fi ber optic technician course is designed for anyone interested in becoming a Certifi ed Fiber Optic Technician. Students will learn how to identify fi ber types, recognize various connectors used in fi ber installation and install, terminate, splice, and properly test installed fi ber cable to existing standards. The class also explores the history and future of fi ber optics and fi ber optics capabilities, basic testing and troubleshooting. Fiber Optic Training combines theory and 85% hands-on activities to prepare the student to take the CFOT (Certifi ed Fiber Optic Technician). Note: fi nancial aid does not cover this class.

Note: The student must pass both the written and hands-on exams to successfully pass this course. Cost is $700 and includes study materials, textbook, exams, and one-year membership to the FOA.

This course is recognized by The U.S. Department of Labor and is sanctioned by the FOA.

CFO Technician: April 6-8, 2020 (Mon-Wed) - $700

CFO Specialist – Splicing: April 9-10, 2020 (Thurs-Fri) - $675

CFO Specialist – Outside Plant: April 13-14, 2020 (Mon-Tues) - $775

Location: Lineman Training Center - 347 Coin Road, Somerset Time: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Students will not be eligible for financial aid (other funding options listed below) Students will not have to take any tests or apply directly to the SCC Admissions Office; however, they

NOTE: All students are required to have successfully passed the basic CFO Technician course within the preceding 12 months or have current FOA membership prior to attending the CFO Specialist courses offered.
