Truth and Consequences: The Choice is Yours
• Target Population: High School Students 10th graders.
• Students role-play scenarios dealing with various substance abuse related behaviors.
• Organized in a format similar to 4-H Reality Store and/or STOP Program.
Topics for Scenarios
• Possession of prescription drugs• Driving under the influence• Sniffing• Possession of alcohol, drug paraphernalia, or
illegal drugs• Trafficking• Stealing drugs
• Depending on the scenario, students will visit appropriate officials and/or agencies to experience the consequences of their behavior.
• A volunteer “parent” will accompany the student through the assigned booths.

• District Judges• County Attorney• Law Enforcement • City and County Law Enforcement Officers• Coroner• School Resource Officer• Hospital Worker • Jailer

• You went to one of the coolest parties in town over the weekend. While you were there, your friend encouraged you to try a “trail mix” of pills. You had no idea what you were taking. Your friend found you passed out in the bathroom. You were rushed to the hospital.– 1. Hospital– 2. Law Enforcement– 3. Minister

• During an announced drug search, the drug dog identified pills (possibly Loratab) in the binding of one of the books in your locker. The principal turned you over to the police.– 1. Law Enforcement– 2. Court Designated Worker– 3. Judge

Substance Abuse Prevention Curriculum
• Truth and Consequences: The Choice is Yours is an excellent supplementary activity to accompany curricula such as: – Guiding Good Choices– Generation Rx– Class Action
Planning Time
• Allow Six (6) months prior to event– Establish a Planning Committee with
representatives from School, Substance Abuse Prevention Coalitions, Regional Prevention Center Staff, County Extension Staff and other designated partners.
• Three (3) months prior– Meet with Planning Committee and other
designated Community Partners and/or commitment for participation
Planning Time
• 1 month prior to event– Distribute publicity of the event to parents
• 1 week prior to event– Conduct Orientation for Community Agency and Volunteers
• 1 day prior to event – Student Pretest
• Day of event – Debrief Students & Conduct Post Test, Community Partners complete feedback survey.
• 1 week following event – Conduct summary/follow up meeting with Planning
Committee
