According to Honorary Chairperson Heidi Bubolz, “We’re in the process of obtaining funds to update playground equipment at Bubolz Memorial Park which will include the addi- tion of a module for special needs chil- dren. The playground receives a great deal of use especially during the summer baseball season when players and fans bring their families. The older equipment has been removed, and we are going to replace it with more durable units that are geared to promoting physical fitness and that give us the opportunity to add more features at a later date. “We also plan to use the open area around the park to create a small dog park that we’re calling the Reedsville ‘Park & Bark.’ It will include a fenced-in area for owners to exercise their pets, as well as a covered shelter, picnic bench, and waste disposal facility. “The dog park will include a special me- morial walk incorporating inscribed bricks that will enable people to honor present and deceased pets. Donations will cover the cost of the bricks and their installation, as well as a contribution to the develop- ment of the park and playground. Because exercise is important to both children and animals, we think it’s a good idea all around.” The fund drive will include collections through donation jars prepared by the local Boy Scout troop, special events including a blessing of the pets, participa- tion in the annual Reedsville Firemen’s Parade, and other fundraising efforts. Mrs. Bubolz comments, “We’re extremely excited at this opportunity to improve facilities that will be open to people and pets throughout Reedsville and the sur- rounding areas. We invite participation by individuals, businesses, and local founda- tions.” Located north of Highway 10 in Reeds- ville, Bubolz Memorial Park was made possible through a donation of land by the Bubolz family. It includes a baseball field, Concession Stand and a playground, as well as the open acreage that will be used for the dog park. For further information or to inquire about a donation, please contact Mary Jo Krahn at 920-754-4371 or visit our website at www.reedsville.org.

SUMMER TIPS WITH NATURE'S SUNSHINE PRODUCTS Summer is coming so be prepared with a variety of products available. Did you know the number one trigger of daytime fatigue is lack of water? It is best to sip water through-out the day rather than drinking it all at once. According to Dr. Gordon Pedersen 75% of American chil-dren are dehydrated regularly and 37% of American children believe they are hungry when they are ac-tually thirsty. A loss of 3% of body water slows metabolism, retards toxin excretion, and results in toxin storage and fat gain. And a 2% loss of body water results in short-tem memory loss and trouble focus-ing. Dehydration is one of the most common reasons for hospitalization among children and the elder-ly. Exercising or working hard, add SOLSTIC REVIVE to replace valuable electrolytes without nasty sugars and dyes. SILVER SHIELD GEL can be used for athlete's foot, bug bites, bee stings, sunburn, scratch-es, scrapes and wounds. And SILVER SHIELD GEL can be applied to replace anti-bacterial hand sanitizers being effective up to 4 hours after application. This is a product that is al-ways in my purse and anywhere I travel. June special available from Roadway To Health - 25% off the retail price of SOLSTIC REVIVE & SILVER SHIELD GEL For more information contact me at: 920-772-4135 [email protected] www.mynsp.com/maryellen

Childhood DiabetesChildhood DiabetesChildhood DiabetesChildhood Diabetes Childhood diabetes is a growing problem. There are two types of diabetes that are impacting children of all ages; type 1 and type 2 diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas no longer produces insulin. The most telling sign of this disease in a child’s body is the abrupt onset of more frequent drink-ing and urinating for at least two to four weeks. Other typical symptoms include wetting the bed and unexplained weight loss. One risk factor for type 1 diabetes is family history. Example: A father with type 1 diabetes has approximately a six percent chance of having an affected child, while a diabetic mother has about a one and half percent chance. Type 1 diabetes is treated by insulin injections. Simply put, type 2 diabetes is the body’s resistance to insulin and is often as-sociated with childhood obesity. Type 2 is related much more to genetics. A child has a 50 percent risk of developing type 2 if a sibling has it. It can show up without symptoms. Type 2 diabetes is treat-ed with diet and oral medications to break down insulin resistance and allow naturally produced insulin to work better. Type 2 diabetes used to be an adult disease, but today we are seeing it more in pediatrics. To help your children stay on track and avoid the potential onset of type 2 diabetes, it is im-portant to promote physical activity and healthful eating.
