Pedestrian Safety Parents, as you know we are always concerned about your child's safety and well-being. We have noticed that some parents, students and families are leaving the school via the double gates at the bottom entrance to the school on Wason St. We are asking you to please be vigilant as there are many cars entering and exiting our school gates at the end of each day. Our P&C have worked very hard over the years with council to be able to provide us with a pedestrian footpath on the north side of Wason St. We are asking you to please use this footpath instead of exiting out of the double car park gates and walking on the road. Also, if you are a permit holder who has permission to park in the disabled car park, please ensure you are parked in the grounds by 3:20pm, to avoid any safety issues.

Bus Travel There have been a large number of complaints from students and parents regarding poor and unsafe bus behaviour. We as a school community have the responsibility to ensure all students arrive to school safely and return home safely. Although some complaints are regarding students from other schools, it is vital that you discuss appropriate bus travel expectations with your child/ren to ensure a calm, safe and respectful journey for all students.

Head Lice Infestation Check your child’s hair now! Head lice are only found on the human head or hair. Head lice do not live on furniture, hats, bedding, carpet or anywhere else in the environment. Treating anything other than the human head does not eradicate head lice. There are two main treatment options to remove head lice: mechanical removal chemical removal. Follow the link for advice on treating headlice: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/headlice/Pages/treatment.aspx#bookmark1

Be persistent: regularly check your children's hair teach older children to check their own hair tie back and braid long hair keep a fine tooth head lice comb in the bathroom

and encourage all family members to use it when they wash their hair.

use follow-up treatments weekly until there are no more signs of infestation.

use hair products such as gel, hair spray or mousse.

spray tea tree oil onto hair.

i-tree eco inventory During 2019 students from year 5 were involved in an i-tree eco inventory of the schools tree population. They discovered that we have 171 trees, with 40% of these being the older Coral trees. All the trees stored 390tons of Co2 valued at $8800, while sequestering 15tons of Co2 p.a. They provided enough oxygen for 250 people per year but only offset the effects of 3.3 cars per year on the road. They attenuated up to 3.5million glasses of water in avoided runoff. In conclusion many of the feel good factors such as shading and aesthetics were unquantifiable but deemed just as important in a learning environment. We believe we are the first school in Australia to undertake this study.

War on Waste Warriors! Thank you for your persistence and energy in keeping our school beautiful. Our amazing Warriors this week are: Staff room: Sophia, Charlotte, Sasha Compost: Summer, Millah, Braxton Return & Earn: Matilda, Malika, Zarah, Amelia Soft Plastic: Charlie Grey tubs: Eve, Luca

Milton Show The annual Milton Show takes place on Friday 6

th March

and Saturday 7th March. All parents will receive a permission note for their children to attend the Show (with a parent or family friend). On Friday 6

th March, parents may

collect their child/children from their classroom/s between 11:50am - 12:00pm. All students must be signed out by their class teachers when they are collected from the classroom. Students will receive an excursion tag and this must be pinned to their uniforms to gain entry into the show. Students will need to be in full school uniform including a hat. All students are invited to walk in the Grand Parade. This year along with school uniform, students have been asked to wear yellow, orange and red in recognition of the firefighters that supported so many people during the fires. More information regarding where students are to assemble at 12:50pm will be forthcoming. To view the Show Program and individual events, please follow the link to their website www.miltonshowsociety.com/

Tennis for Sport In 2020, our school students get to play tennis for sport with Coach Kevin Murphy again! This year we have 8 week programs which has so many health, coordination, emotional and social benefits! Stage 3 students are playing this term and Jonah and Phoenix were such good sports demonstrating how to cuddle Kev’s car if you hit it (either by accident or intentionally) that they earned Funland Vouchers. Thanks Kev for making this an excellent program!

Did You Know? Almost 3 in every 100 children have a peanut allergy. Even trace amounts of peanut or tree nuts can trigger an allergy and kill a child. Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can cause itchy rash, throat or tongue swelling, shortness of breath, vomiting, light-headedness, low blood pressure and cardiac arrest. Tragically, Australian children have died at school from nut allergies. There are several children at Milton Public School who have a life-threatening nut allergy. Our school strongly encourages you to help minimise harm to those students by not sending nuts or nut products to school.
