It’s no surprise to

teenagers that our freedom for

confidentially doesn’t really go all

too far; whether it’s your mom

and dad looking through your

phone or the utter paranoia of

danger in their kid’s lives. Now the

thing here is what’s the line

between protection or parental

paranoia. There’s no doubting that

the Internet plays a big part of

people’s lives in the twenty-first

century, used in most homes and

schools, along with on mobile

devices. According to a 2015

survey by Pew Research Center,

nearly three-quarters of teens

(ages 13-17) have access to a

smartphone, and 92 percent of

teens go online daily. It’s no

wonder that many parents often

take to monitoring their teen’s

Internet history and other social

technology. But is too much

monitoring an invasion of privacy,

and is this monitoring actually

beneficial to teens? For many

young people online can serve as a

personal journal or log for their

thoughts but that’s the thing, not

everything said is something

comfortable for parents to see.

For many parents online and

phones are a good way to “keep

tabs” on their child but let’s be

honest, that’s a good way to burn

trust between families. On the

parent’s side of the argument,

many can justify the invasion of

privacy as keeping their children

safe. According to another survey

done in 2012, 81 percent of

parents were concerned about

advertisers and other third parties

gathering information on their

child’s online behavior, with 72

percent being concerned of

interaction with people they don’t

know and 69 percent worried

about how their child’s online

activity might affect future

opportunities. These factors might

weigh in to how many parents

decide what to monitor and what

to leave private. While the study

by Carnegie Mellon University

found that parents generally

agreed that their teens should

have some form of privacy and

demonstrated trust, most said

that if they really wanted to, they

could look at their children’s

phones. Most parents also

admitted that they struggle

making privacy decisions with

unknown technology, “making it

up as they go along”. Now where’s

the line here? If there is a justified

reason to be snooping around

then that’s understandable but

there is a point where it jumps to

paranoia and turns in to, “Where

are you going?” “Who are you

with?” “Why?” This can lead to

distrust and frustration regarding

teens and their parents.

Study for 50 minutes, then take a 10-minute

break. Stretch, relax, have an energy snack.

When you’re studying take it into

manageable loads, if 50 minutes doesn’t suit

you right, change it to whatever time

you’re comfortable with. Just try and keep

it a nice, long amount so that you’re ready

to take on the challenge of a heavy

workload of school.

CARING

Synonyms: Kind, thoughtful, gentle, considerate,

compassionate.

Antonyms: Insensible, callous, selfish, and unfeeling.

Is caring courageous? Why?

Caring can be very courageous, depending on a situation

or position of an individual. Take in consideration all of

the wrongs that have been going on in the world today,

current times. People who choose to care for the activists

and try to aid their cause can suffer the repercussions of

other’s hatred and dismay. In that case their interest and

care can be something that would put them in harm’s

way. Their courageous attitude to help and care brought

something potentially harmful into their way.

DNA was first

discovered by Swiss

physician Friedrich

Miescher in 1869.

“The price of greatness is responsibility.”

–Winston Churchill.

By this quote, Churchill was most likely referring to

how having such a high position would result in a

person having many roles which would result in

many duties and jobs to fulfill. If you are placed in a

position of high, take charge and live up to the

responsibilities you have.

November 30, 1874- Winston

Leonard Spencer Churchill, the

leader who guided Great Britain and

the allies through World War II, was

born.

Choir has some people who are really talented. Ms. Lindhurst has changed the Choir

(Royal Blues) to a Show Choir! This seems to be a pretty good idea and a good direction for

Allen East because of competition. Now, let’s see what they are doing for this month!

It’s a busy season for the

Royal Blues. They are

heading out to a

recording on December

8th, to rejoice Christmas

on Channel 44. Tune in

on Channel 44 to listen to

them. After that they

will carol around town.

They will be singing

“Lauddamus Te (La-

dah-moose tey)”, “ It’s

beginning to look a lot like

Christmas” , “Carol of the

bells”, “African Noel”, “We wish

you a Merry Chrismas”, “Silent

Night”, and “Baby, It’s cold

outside”.

Also there’s a Jr. High Choir

concert performing on

Thursday December 10th, it’s all

about Christmas because it’s

that time of year again. It’s

their Christmas program! They

sing a whole bunch of song

about Christmas to you!

On December 17th The High

School Choir is also having a

Christmas concert. The Royal

Blues will be performing

“Christmas on Broadway”

Way ahead of time, The Royal

Blues/Anyone are planning on

preforming the Play/Musical

called: The Sound of Music.

This year’s SADD team has been working super hard to make sure you don’t make any

destructive decisions; decisions like drinking and driving, texting and driving, using

drugs or alcohol, or not using your seatbelt while riding in a car. Doing any of these could

be life threatening.

S.A.D.D. Team

The SADD team this year has 25

members. The freshman are Caitlyne

Spees, Faith Sealscott, Gage Rumer,

Hannah Kerchenfaut, Kennedy Ball,

Macayla Phillips, Madison Brown, and

Victoria Ristor. The sophomores are

Ethan Grant and Katie Thaxton. The

juniors are Allie Bowerman, Hannah

Hager, Corey Spees, Kendra Webster,

Alicia Lawrence, Dylan Koehlinger,

Colton Truex, and Sydney Rogers-

Meyers. The seniors are Morgan

Zellman, Kelsey Ball, Hayley Kirtland,

Adriane Hensley, Macy Roeder, Nate

Twining, and Ariel Schantz. The SADD

team has done a lot of things this

year, including two assemblies, seat

belt checks, and “Random Acts of

Kindness”. Their assemblies were

both about the same thing; wear your

seatbelt. One assembly was for the

junior high down to the kindergarten

and the other was for grades 9-12.

Seatbelt checks were in the parking

lots and everyone who wore their

seatbelt got a coupon for a free

McFlurry. “Random Acts of Kindness”

was the party that was held during

third and fourth period on the day

before Thanksgiving Break.

This week the French class has been up to some pretty fun fashion if you know

what I mean. Students were all given an assignment of having a certain fashion

designer to study, and once they had discovered that designer’s main motif they

were to dress in what that designer would have thought to make them for the

runway. Here are some of the pictures of the kids and how they thought they

would dress like if they were

in France.

Girls Varsity Basketball December 4, 2015 Ally Richardson Page 12

The Varsity Girls’ Basketball team this year has put in a lot of effort to prepare for their season. Their

season officially started on November 20 because they played in the Bluffton Holiday Tournament.

Their next game was on November 28 and they took on Waynesfield at Waynesfield. Let’s see how they

did.

At the Bluffton tournament

they played against Arlington

and Cory Rawson. They beat

Cory Rawson and lost against

Arlington. The Arlington game

was a hard loss

for the

Mustangs but they still fought

hard. Kyra Clark and Kylie Wyss

both had 9 points. Kaitlyn

McKeever fell right behind them

with 5 points. The score at the

end of the first half was 30-7. The final score of

the game was 57-23 but they came back strong

the next day against Cory Rawson. Kylie Wyss

had 23 points, Kyra Clark had 10, Kaitlyn

McKeever had 12, and Chloe Lawrence had 13.

Alyssa Young and Ally Richardson

had 2 points. By the first quarter

the Mustangs were up with the

score being 30-15. The final score

of the Cory Rawson game was 62-

29. The Mustangs were ahead for

the whole game against Waynesfield and they

got the W! The score was 45-37 and Kylie Wyss

had 12 points for the Mustangs. The girls record

is currently 2-2 because they took a very sad lost

to Hardin Northern with the score being 40-38.

With 10 seconds left

Kaitlyn McKeever shot an

amazing three and she

swished it which then ties

the score 38-38.

Unfortunately Hardin

Northern was able to put up a

bunny and made which got

them the win. A little bit about

the team, the coaches for this

year’s girls’ team are once again

Dana

Koontz and

he is assisted by Dre White.

The girl’s team this year is

very young. There is only

one senior and she is Kylie

Wyss. The juniors on the

team this year are Alyssa Young, Kaitlyn

McKeever, and Jade Meyer. The sophomores are

Kyra Clark and Chloe Lawrence. The freshmen

are Ally Richardson and Gracie young and

Laruen Criblez and Kate Newland dress. For the

Month of December they will play

a total of 6 games. They will play

on the 3 against Delphos Jefferson

and on the 8 it is their first home

game against Wapakoneta. They

play on the 10 against LCC at LCC

and then on the 12 they take on Botkins at

Botkins. They play the 17 as well and get to play

at home and they are facing Lincolnview and

finally they play the 21 at home again and they

are playing against Pandora Gilboa. The Lady

for every win so come out and

show them support and cheer

them on.
