Just leave it and let it feed the grass.” Neighbor-X, being a kind-hearted and thoughtful person, gently explains that a banana peel is biodegradable, and an apple core is biodegradable and a tuna fish sandwich is

biodegradable, and yet neighbors generally don’t throw those items onto another neighbor’s lawn—even if it is just that little skinny patch of grass between the street and the sidewalk. Then in one last friendly effort to help his fellow neighbor finally Get It, Neighbor-X employs the extra-lung capacity achieved by bending over when walking the dog and in an enthusiastic football fan voice, shouts: “Biodegradable???...C’MON MAN!!!”

So now un-named neighbor finally understands all the great benefits of picking up after their dog and has begun a new New Year’s resolution to be sure each and every time un-named dog bakes its little loaf of love on a lawn, a quick cardio-healthy scoop will immediately follow. Hooray to ALL thoughtful neighbors!

The moral of this tall tale… Please pick-up after your pet.

Thank You.

Pets Corner- (Continued from Cover Page)

Three Steps to SuccessYour pet needs dental care - regular, professional care from your

veterinarian, as well as care at home from you. The American Veterinary Dental Society recommends that pet owners follow three basic steps:• STEP 1: Take your pet to the veterinarian for a dental exam. Don’t

wait for his annual checkup if you suspect a problem.• STEP 2: Begin a dental care regimen at home. Your veterinarian

can suggest steps that may include brushing your pet’s teeth. One of the most convenient and effective ways to combat oral disease is feeding specially formulated foods proven effective in combating plaque and tartar buildup. The Seal of Acceptance from the Veterinary Oral Health Council, an organization initiated by the American Veterinary Dental Society to guide consumers, appears on products that meet defined standards for plaque and tartar control in dogs and cats. For further information on the VOHC or their product standards, visit www.vohc.org.

• STEP 3: Schedule regular veterinary checkups. These are essential in helping your veterinarian monitor the progress of your pet’s dental health routine. Your veterinary health care team can help you schedule the appropriate visits.

& Pinktober365Team Tiara is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to raising

money to fund research and education for breast cancer as well as provide outreach services to those affected by it.  2012 will mark our 7th year in this fight against breast cancer.  To date, we have raised over $600,000 for breast cancer awareness, research and direct support for survivors.  In 2012, Team Tiara will begin directly funding research into metastatic breast cancer. This is an under-funded area of research where we need to have a lasting impact.  Men and women do not die when their cancer is confined to their breasts.  We lose them when that cancer spreads to their bones, liver, lungs, brain and other organs -- robbing them of time with their families and friends.  This is the heart-breaking side of breast cancer, and an area of research we need to be a part of.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 in 2012, specifically targeted to metastatic breast cancer research. SO WE are excited to announce that www.pinktober365.com launched January 1.  This new website will profile 365 pink warriors -- survivors, walkers, researchers, and advocates. We want to hear your story, whether you are a fighter, survivor, family or friend affected by breast cancer. Go to www.pinktober365.com to share your story or obtain more information. Team Tiara would be honored to hear from you.

Granny gets the glory in this musical comedy at the Hill Country Community Theatre, but more than a celebratory valentine to grandmas, this is a show about all of us. The play boasts a musical score that is both gutsy and gorgeous mixed with dialogue that is both smart and clever which will leave you smiling, reflecting and remembering. Grandmother sure isn’t what she used to be, but the more she changes, the more she stays the same. Inside, a glossily turned out grandma is overflowing with awe and wonder and a pushover for the beauty and delight of the miracle that is her grandchild.
