NEWSLETTER INFO
COVER PHOTORobert, Carmel and Sam Divin.
We met up with my sister and her family (they live in Colorado Springs, CO) for a ski trip to Breckenridge in February. It was Sam’s first time skiing and he did great! He loved it. Breckenridge was beautiful and has grown so much since the last time I was there. Because of the date in February when we went, we practically had the place to ourselves. Since Leander ISD has staff development days the first part of February, we took advantage of the time and it was so worth it! No crowds at all and the weather was wonderful, too.
We moved to RBC in July of 2008. Folks probably have seen my husband walking the ‘hood with a very large Great Dane/Mastiff mix and the cutest Corgi in the world! I work at Dell; Robert works at Polycom and Sam attends Reagan Elementary and is an avid swimmer. He swims year-round for Lone Star Aquatics in Round Rock.
Do you take great photos?Would you like to see your photo published?
We are looking for great cover photos for upcoming November issue of the Ranch Record.

The Mandeville family has been in Austin since 2001 and were excited to move to The Ranch at Brushy Creek three and a half years ago. Kevin is an Engineering Geologist for a private consulting firm and Liza manages a PMO for a silicon valley technology company. Their two boys, Kyler (almost 9 years)
and Keylan (6 years) attend Sommer Elementary and are active in sports, with soccer and football their favorites. As a family they all love to travel and spend time with family and friends. They can always be counted on to plan and host neighborhood street parties.

Here is a little background information on our family. We are Jon and Jennifer Eckert. Jon moved to Austin, Texas from Illinois about 36 years ago. I was born and raised in San Antonio and moved to Austin in 1999. We moved to the Ranch at Brushy Creek Estates in January of 2009. We have 3 children. Our oldest, Jasmine, is 12 years old, and she is a sixth grader at Walsh Middle School. Our two youngest children are Juliana who is 10 years old and in fourth grade, and Jayden who is 8 years old and in second grade. They both attend Patsy Sommer Elementary. The girls love playing the piano, and all three kids enjoy volleyball, basketball, and swimming. Jon and I met in 1998 when we both worked at Bank of America. We got married in 2001. Currently, Jon is a Senior Vice President and Manager of the Business Banking Group at Comerica Bank. He has been in the banking industry for about 22 years. I left the banking industry in 2004 to raise the kids. I like to be involved with the kids’ activities and their education and try to volunteer as much as possible at Sommer. We absolutely love the neighborhood and couldn’t ask for better neighbors!

RANCH AT BRUSHY CREEK
Sunburn is caused from over-exposure to the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. While the symptoms (such as red skin that is painful to the touch) are usually temporary, the skin damage is often permanent and can cause serious long-term health effects, including skin cancer, pigmentation and premature aging. In addition to the skin, eyes can get burned from sun exposure; sunburned eyes turn red, dry, and painful, and can feel gritty.
Sunburn results when the amount of exposure to the sun or other ultraviolet light source exceeds the ability of the body’s protective pigment, melanin, to protect the skin. Sunburn in a very light-skinned person may occur in less than 15 minutes of midday sun exposure, while a dark skinned person may tolerate the same exposure for hours.
Sunlight contains an invisible form of radiation called ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV A and possibly UV B can harm skin, connective tissue and increase risk for developing skin cancer. Certain drugs such as some blood pressure medication, antibiotics and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs increase sensitivity to sunlight and the risk of getting sunburn.
By Concentra Urgent Care
SYMPTOMS The first signs of a sunburn may not appear for a few hours.
The full effect to your skin may not appear for 24 hours or longer. Possible symptoms include:
• Red, tender skin that is warm to touch. (1st degree burn)• Blisters that develop hours to days later. (2nd degree burn) • Severe reactions (sometimes called “sun poisoning”),
including fever, chills, nausea, or rash. • Skin peeling on sunburned areas several days after the sunburn.
FIRST AID • Try taking a cool bath or shower. Or place wet, cold wash
cloths on the burn for 10 to 15 minutes, several times a day. You can mix baking soda in the water to help relieve the pain. Small children may become easily chilled, so keep the water tepid.
• Apply a soothing lotion to the skin. • Aloe gel is a common household remedy for sunburns.
Aloe contains active compounds that help stop pain and inflammation of the skin.
• Over-the-counter steroid cream can also be applied several times a day.
• Over-the-counter pain medication, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, including aspirin, may be helpful, and are excellent for reducing burn inflammation whereas Tylenol only reduces pain, not the burn itself.
