London Array will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm when complete. It is being built in the outer Thames Estuary, mid way between the Kent and Essex coasts. Offshore construction on the first 630MW phase started in March this year when the first foundation was installed. In total Phase One consists of:

175 turbines

Two offshore substations

A new onshore substation

Four export cables

Over 200km of inter array cable

The wind farm will generate enough energy to power around 425,000 homes, two thirds of all the homes in Kent , and displace the emission of over 900,000 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to taking nearly 300,000 cars off the roads, each year.

Ramsgate is the home base for the construction, operations and maintenance of the wind farm. We’re building a purpose built Operations and Maintenance facility that will accommodate up to 90 staff and six maintenance vessels at the Port once Phase One is operational. It gives us great pleasure to support this popular and family friendly event, which attracts people to Ramsgate from far and wide each year.

Fun for all the family

Participants are in for a treat at this highly popular annual event for all the family. The atmosphere is always relaxed and welcoming. On the water there may be fierce rivalries, but back on land there is beer to be drunk and tales to be told. Competitors and spectators alike can enjoy a après drink and a post-sail chat in the fabulous Royal Temple Yacht club’s new bar, where a daily ‘Happy Hour’ really attracts the crowds. This year there is going to be a youngster’s area in the Hold Bar with various music, entertainment and TV available. The evening can be whiled away in the yacht club, with its programme of food and entertainment, with live music, dancing and fun. Ramsgate also has a growing number of excellent local restaurants, all within a short walk of the Yacht Club and harbour.

On the water there’s a Classfor everyoneThis truly international event attracts competitors from all parts of the UK, Belgium, Holland and France. It knows no age barriers either. The youngest competitor last year was just 8 years old and there are always prizes for the young sailors!

We understand that while many people take the whole week off and make this a part of their annual family holiday, for those who can only make it for a couple of days in 2011 we have a format that caters for both.

Meanwhile, Ramsgate boasts an excellent IRC class and a strong and up and coming cruiser fleet. Last year the cruiser class saw 37 boats compete every day over the six days from Monday to Saturday. This year, there really will be something for every type of boat, with no fewer than three cruiser classes – an unrestricted class allowed to use spinnakers and a fast and slow cruiser class.

Whether you are an IRC national champion, serious racer, cruiser or a complete beginner, Ramsgate Week has something for you.

Welcome to Ramsgate Week, the fabulous, fun and friendly regatta on the East coast!
