NEWSLETTER OCTOBER ’17 Ramsgate Community Police Forum We are pleased to report a significant decrease in overall crime as well as house break-ins in this quarter compared to 2016. We were able to spot trends and has tightened our patrols to focus on these specific times and dates. We identified a significant spike in criminal activity towards the middle and end of every month. We also found that criminals are more active during the day compared to night time. It is of utmost importance that residents remain vigilant at all times and do not become too relaxed when crime in our area declines. Do not give perpetrators an opportunity to break with easy access to you property and valuables therefore do not sleep with open doors or windows. A crime of opportunity is a crime that is committed without planning when the perpetrator sees that he/she has the chance to commit the act at that moment and seizes it. Such acts have little or no premeditation. We urge residents to report all crime especially house break-ins to SAPS so that fingerprints can be matched and suspects arrested. If you do not report it, SAPS will not be able to link perpetrators and they will proceed with their criminal activities in our area. This makes it extremely difficult to take criminals off the streets and to keep them from committing crime. Please report all house break ins to Ramsgate CPF SAPS 0734868683. 1. You will probably have noticed a deduction on your rates account tothe amount of R45 for a UIP charge. This charge will be used for theSpecial Ratings Area (SRA) which was passed by council at the end ofMay after a 51% vote was obtained from Ramsgate Residents.

The funds, which are not yet available to the CPF, will allow variousNGOs in Ramsgate to create a safe, clean and joyful village to live in.The first project of the SRA is to support the CPF to prevent crime andin that process, make Ramsgate crime free which is essential for thecommunity to thrive. Thereafter, within a certain period of time, otherNGOs will benefit from the initiative which will be for the bettermentof Ramsgate and its residents.

We must however emphasize that the RCPF still need your monthlycontributions in order to fight crime in the most effective way, thiswill include extra cameras and extra security. Therefore we humblyrequest residents’ financially support.

  • The Ramsgate CPF are dependant on the community for monthlycontributions and donations in order to operate successfully.

We require continued income therefore humbly request your financialsupport. Please contribute towards the cause and help us makeRamsgate a crime free area for all to live in. We are most grateful forthe contributors who has been supporting us throughoutthe years however, we struggle to functions withthe little contributions we are currently

receiving. We desperately need your help

We currently have 11 surveillance cameras which are placed in areaswhere criminals are most active. These cameras are beneficial to theCPF to track criminal activity. The cameras also deter criminals from thearea when noticed. Residents are welcome to sponsor a camera to theRCPF which we maintain on a weekly basis. For more information, please email Quinn on [email protected]

It is unfortunate that we had to say goodbye to Derek Walton as theRamsgate CPF’s Cluster Manager of over 12 years. After 21 years,Derek decided to leave the South African Police Service to take up aposition in the private industry. Derek has served the CPF well andhave thankfully not left for good, he is now serving as a CommitteeMember on the Executive Board where his policing experience andexpertise are highly required. We wish him the best of luck in hisfuture endeavours and appreciate his contribution towards the CPF.

Brigadier Slabbert from the Margate SAPS will appoint a new clustermanager in due course.

The Ramsgate CommunityPolice Forum had a veryunexpected loss of one of itsExecutive CommitteeMembers who passed awayin September. Sharon Smithjoined the RCPF 3 years agoas committee member andpatroller and was extremelydedicated to fight crime andserve the Ramsgatecommunity. Sharon lived inRamsgate and waspassionate to help others. She discharged her dutieswith utmost sincerity andcommitment and she will begreatly missed. Our sincerecondolences to her familyand friends.

I joined the Ramsgate CPF just over a year now, little did I knowthat I am not only joining a team who stands together, to fight crimebut I joined a family. This morning one of our family members died.

Sharon you will be missed far more than you would have ever realized.I always called Sharon the Google of Ramsgate. You gave everythingyou can to our community.

Sharon was one of the starting members of the RCPF, and for that wesalute you. You and the others are the reason that we have a wellestablished CPF today, you helped with the votes to establish a SpecialRating Area for Ramsgate and there are so much more to mentionwhat you did, you were a true inspiration on how everyone in ourcommunity should be and that it to care for each other.

Sharon lived for Ramsgate, she loved Ramsgate and the community, and I am sure many people will have great stories to tell about Sharon.

The RCPF have lost one of their own, and you will be missed by us all.

Knowing you, you are looking from above and smiling.

Rest in peace our dear Friend. Love you.
