Children’s House One

Dear Children’s House One Families,

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding, and support during

the transitions that have been happening in Children’s house 1. We have

made some big changes both in the expectations of the children as well as

the classroom layout and lessons. It took the children only a few days to

adjust to their new surroundings and teachers and everyone has been

settling in nicely and we are starting to see great things happening in the

classroom!

During the month of September we presented materials that help categorize Living vs Non-Living, Plant vs

Animals, Animal Coverings/habitats, Land, Water, Air, our 5 Senses, magnets, the globe, and the seasons. We

also celebrated our International Day of Peace.

We welcome this upcoming month of October! Ms. Carmelita introduced

some new lessons such as the letter sound bags and the children are really

enjoying practicing their letter sounds with this new lesson. We are looking

forward to our visit to Remick’s Pumpkin Patch on October 10th. We will be

celebrating Liam, Landon & Zoey’s birthdays this month. We are also getting

excited for Halloween and our Trick-or-Treating outing on October 31st!

Please feel free to reach out to any of the Casa 1 teachers through the Class Dojo App or email Sarah directly

at [email protected].

Children’s House Two

What a wonderful first month of school! Your children are amazing and settling in nicely to their

routines. They are so excited to explore their rooms and the materials. Learning is fun and our goal

is to make them fall in love with learning.

Apart from reviewing our calendar, days of the week and the months of the year we also read

stories every day. During those stories we talked about the feelings of character, happy, sad,

excited, and mad, etc. These scenarios help children to understand their own feelings, feelings of

others and how to deal with life in a classroom. Many of our friends are still

learning to handle their emotions in many ways and sometimes it is hard for our new and young

friends. We exercise different ways of dealing with these emotions through Grace & Courtesy and

by role modeling such as saying words like, I don’t like that and No-thank you, thank you, I forgive

you, that makes me happy, that makes me sad and etc. The goal behind these exercises is that if

children learn to use their words they won’t feel the need to use their hands when they are not

happy or frustrated.

In September, we studied what land and water is and explored the seven

continents and the four oceans. Most of the children know the continent song and our youngest

friends are eager new learners. Learning and classifying living things Vs Non-living things, plants

and Animals, vertebrates Vs Invertebrates, motion, speed, gravity, parts of a tree, geometric

shapes, senses was educational yet fun. Our field trip to Deer Lake Orchard was an interesting yet

a fun filled outing for all our friends. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those parents

for your support given during the trip. This field trip brought meaning to all the research, studies

and activities that we did on Apple thematic unit during the first two weeks of September. “The

senses, being the explorers of the world, open the way to knowledge” - Maria Montessori.

In October, we will work on North American continent and the three major countries (Canada, US, Mexico). Older

friends will study about the upper mid-western states- Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota

along with the Great Lakes. Most of our friends have started to master the idea of punching by push pin punching on the

line. Our friends will start to punch maps, countries when we start this type of work during this year. This month, we are

hoping to cover lesson plans on parts of a leaf, parts of a frog, fall, leaves and different types of leaves and their names,

Columbus Day, life cycle of a pumpkin, the Human Skeleton, and parts of the Body. For Halloween

we will be going trick or treating at the neighboring businesses and have fun in classroom activities

on October 31st.

Just a reminder, Please make sure to check that your children have an extra set of clothes for

colder weather at school. We would like each child to have a warmer jacket, light gloves, and a hat

as we try to get outside even on cooler days. Please be on time - our 2.5/3 hour work cycle begin

at 8.30 and circle time begins at 8.25. We read and share wonderful stories, lessons, and games

first thing in the morning and wouldn’t like your child to miss them. It’s also a great message to

your child that being on time is important.

We have a lot of learning and fun to look forward to in the month of October.

Happy Fall

Sincerely, Ms. Bawani & Ms. Julie

Children’s House Three

Season turns into a beautiful new phase in October. Not only do we have visual

changes of tree leaves and morning dew drops on the grass but we also experience

temperature change sensorially. And a new school year started with creation of a

new community in CASA 3 with new community members: Josephine (Joey) and

Bella.

Greeting the novelty in the class (environment), some developing skills in social and

practical area are required for children’s self-care and independence. Our class

values three independent skills at this time: functional, emotional, and intellectual.

In terms of “Grace and Courtesy,” our class encouraged the children to use manners to demonstrate respect to others,

Montessori materials, building, rules, teachers, and to themselves to make a better community, to raise good social

beings, and to build their own independence in these areas.

As for children’s self-control and self-discipline, the class considers their absorbent

mind to absorb all external stimuli, knowledge, and environmental moods like a

sponge. We guide the children to build self-control by their own inner discipline

and teaching, not by forcefully compelling teacher’s norms. When they have these

“normalized” aspects that they themselves built, they love the beauty of silence

and social respect voluntarily, and also they know how to exercise full

concentration and attention on their work for hours. With self-discipline, we can

start expanding our work areas with joy and confidence.

We studied biology last month. From the macroscopic distinction between living and non-living, the children did more

research on the nature. Getting microscopic inquires and views daily, they learned diverse subjects: the animals and the

plants, the vertebrates and invertebrates, and five animal classifications (the mammals, the fishes, the reptiles, the

amphibians, and the birds). The curriculum provided the children not only with biological knowledge but also diverse

views to classify the nature by reasonable criteria and accurate sensorial discrimination such as size, color, shape, biome,

and traits.

As you noticed through their works, we will keep doing Bob book reading, handwriting, and basic arithmetic (multiple

digits) works daily next month.

As a reminder, please bring your child with proper clothes as the weather gets coolers and check whether they have

enough clothes and shoes (for inside and outside activities). If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at

[email protected]

Toddler Room

Hello Everyone, It is crazy to believe how fast September flew by! We are so excited to move into the month of October. In the Month of October we will be saying goodbye to Bennett as he moves up to Preschool. We will also be welcoming Lucy to the Toddlers from the Transition room. This month we have one birthday. Colton will be turning 2 on October 6th. Happy Birthday Colton. In the month of October we will be learning about Mysteries in the Sky, Water, On Land, and In the Trees. These topics will be covering animals, transportation, weather, and Halloween Fun!

Also in the Month of October we will be learning how to wash our dishes after meals. The children already do a great job cleaning their meal spot by dumping their leftover food into the trash and bringing their plates, cups and silverware to the sink. We are very excited to start practicing this practical life skill. In the Month of September we talked about "All About Me". We talked about Our Emotions, Parts of The Body, and Our Five Senses. We learned about the color red and what objects and materials around us in our everyday life that we see the color red. We learned the letters A and C. We discussed the sounds each letter makes. We identified objects, materials, and names that start with those letters. In the month of September we practiced our fine motor skills by learning how to use crayons to color pictures and circles on paper. We learned about the different emotions our bodies can

feel and what we can do if we feel sad or angry. We learned about rainbows and what colors make a rainbow by doing our rainbow skittle experiment. We encourage you this month to continue sharing different stories from your own home with the class to keep the learning going both at home and in the classroom.

Transition Room

Hello Parents!

Happy October! The weather has started to get colder and the leaves are starting to change

colors and the toddlers in the transition room are ready for it!

This past month has been "All About Me". The children have

learned about their bodies, their emotions, our five senses, and

about our living environments. Some of our favorite activities have

been the taste test so we can try out the five basic types of taste.

Surprisingly, majority of the children enjoyed eating the lemons when we tried the sour taste!

The favorite was tasting sweet which were strawberries!

This upcoming month the children are becoming detectives. We are observing our outside

environment and being detectives as we explore the skies, water and land. Our plan is to go

on many different nature walks to help us observe and learn what is going on in these types of environments outside. At

the end of this month is Halloween so we have a fun week planned with a variety of spooky and creepy activities and

projects.

A few reminders for this upcoming month: please make sure your child has warm clothing in their cubby. We will be

trying to go outside as much as possible in the upcoming weeks before we are stuck inside for the winter. Also, if you

can please sign up on the donation sheet for flower arranging that will be wonderful! The children have not had any

fresh flowers in a while to work with and would love to start that lesson again.

As always, if you have any question for me or Miss Kim, please do not hesitate to call or email us at abby@radiant-

montessori.com. Thank you so much and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!

Kim, Miss Lorena,

Infant Room

Hi Families.

We had a great time in September and we were very busy.

Music classes with Ms. Jane have started after the summer break. It is fun to listen and move and groove to new songs and different sounds. The weather has been great to spend outside time while we still can. Last week when we were out, some very noisy geese were on the other side of the parking lot and that held our interest for a long time! Our lessons have helped us learn

and have fun at the same time. The favorite seemed to be a practical life lesson, wiping our nose. It seems to be the best when we pretend sneeze and make funny sneeze noises.

For October we have fun activities planned for Halloween. And also we will be continuing to work hard on our lessons, focusing on using cups and spoons independently. It can be messy but they are so happy to be able to do it themselves.

I hope everyone has had a chance to meet Ms. Husna. She is a great addition to the infant room. The babies all love her! Welcome, Husna!

Thanks, have a great rest of your day. Dawn, Husna and Shyla
