July Summer Events

We have a couple of fun center-wide events coming up this month! On July 12th we

will be having Minnesota Bubble Parties at Radiant to put on a Bubble Party for all

our students! Toddlers will have their party at 9:30am and preschoolers will be split

into 2 groups one at 10:00am and one at 11:00am. If the weather does not allow us to

be outside this day, we will reschedule for another day which has yet to be determined.

We will also be having the ice cream truck out again on Wednesday July 26th. The kids all had a

blast in June when the ice cream truck came to Radiant… despite the pouring rain and

thunderstorms! The ice cream truck will be at Radiant from 2:45pm until

about 3:15pm. If your child is enrolled in dance class through Radiant,

classes will be running about 15 minutes behind so all children can

participate in the special ice cream snack time.

Preschool Field Trip

This month our preschool classes will be going on a Padelford Riverboat Cruise

down the Mississippi River starting at Harriet Island. This is a really great trip and

the kids always have lots of fun on the boat! We will be having a picnic lunch

following the boat ride before heading back to school. We just got word that we will

be able to rent a second bus for this trip AND we will be the only group on the boat

(this could change, but it’s not likely this close to the trip!).

Updating Student Files

The state requires us to check children’s files annually to make sure that their

information is up to date and we have current copies of all forms that are needed.

Health care summaries need to be updated at the time of enrollment, at 1 year old,

at 2 years old, and at 3 years old. After a child moves into preschool they do not need to have

annual updates to the health care summary. When you take your child in for their well-child

check, please make sure to get a copy of the visit summary for our records.

Children’s House 1

Over the past month we have had a whirlwind of fun

events and I am proud to say our students have blossomed

quite nicely while learning about safety week, enjoying

Radzoo, preparing for Father’s Day, & Fourth of July

Celebrations. Thank You to all of the parents, and

Grandparents, who graciously volunteered for our Jack

and the Bean Stalk theater performance field trip! All of

which was quite a bonding experience. Meanwhile, there has been so much

enjoyment watching our students develop, discover, and create their own extensions of each material

they are learning from, each game we teach them, and each grace and courtesy lesson we guide.

During our work cycle our staff are continuously looking for what interests

the students have. It is with those interests we follow up with the appropriate

materials to offer a lesson. When these interests are being satisfied the children are

absorbing information with great joy and fulfillment. Although we are offering an

“emphasis” on certain areas of learning each month the prior focus on children’s

interest is our priority and what Maria Montessori directed in her teachings…

Our emphasis in June was on the continent of Europe, moving

children from single digit addition to double digit and more. We have also had a great interest in

fractions, and the parts of a whole In language we are working on phonograms, and sight words

daily. We are observing children choose to help remind each other to look at the letter chart to

help sound out phonetic words too. We have tied-in learning how to write names with the

moveable alphabet using name cards, and recognizing each child’s name with name sticks at lunch.

It’s wonderful to see students have learned to read friend’s names as well.

Our upcoming direction for July and summer development focuses on themes such as, famous artists,

music from around the world, farm animals (with a visit to the zoo), science discovery, the continent of

North America and more. These themes will be used to stimulate curiosities and help our students better

understand the world in which they live.

We are now settling in to our summer schedule and a routine that has much more physical

movement along with being able to spend more time outdoors. Tuesday we focus on Science and it is Bike

Day, Thursday we focus on Art and it is Water Day, and Friday is Baking Day. If you want to volunteer for

the zoo or river boat field trips we would truly be grateful.

I want to encourage our parents as well to help children to more toward independence by offering ways

in which your child can be more independent in your daily routines at home. IE hanging clothes hangers low

so the child may reach, putting cereal and bowls etc. in reach, allowing more time for your child to give their

own effort on dressing, grooming, and helping out.

I hope this information encourages you as a parent to pause and observe, encourages you to feel

supported and helps you feel confident that you are making an excellent decision having your child here at

Radiant. Our staff collaborates as a team while working together with your child and I want to give great

credit to them as well, as we pull together each day and present the Montessori work, guide your child at play,

and encourage creativity in learning. Please check the Montessori Compass for communications, class

photos, and updates. Email me at [email protected] anytime. Ms. Wenda and Ms. Regina

Children’s House 2

Hello Casa Two Families,

We are excited to welcome summer and we hope your Fourth of July celebrations were wonderful. The last week of June we continued to talk about creatures specifically bugs and reptiles. We had a great visit from Radzoo where we saw many interesting and amazing creatures! We

ended the week talking about how we might celebrate the Fourth, what insect might you see if you go camping, mosquitoes, fire flies, watch or frogs, snakes, turtles...and we learned a few camping songs. We have practiced the silence game which can be a lot of fun if you are camping. What sounds do hear?

Looking forward to July we will be celebrating our country by reading books, learning about the flag and why do we celebrate the Fourth of July. The next few weeks we have fun subjects to discuss. Nature and Weather week, Water, Lakes and Rivers week, and Literature week we will have a lot of fun learning more on these particular subjects. And of course each week will have its own themed art, baking, and activities!

Nature and Weather week is particularly interesting in Minnesota as we have very distinctive seasons. We have visited both subject matters in the past but we will look at our daily weather, how does it differ from the spring weather, what happens when it is stormy? We will continue to discuss nature and the effect of weather on nature and the creatures that live here in Minnesota.

Water, Lakes, River week should be just as interesting as we so many bodies of water in Minnesota. We will learn our Montessori landforms (lake, island, river, bay, peninsula and more) and look on maps to find them. What lives by these bodies of water? What are the names of the lakes and rivers close by? Why are they important to us? Then on July 19th we get to take a riverboat cruise that should be fun for all.

Literature week we will get to read books from different authors. We will explore the ideas of what is an author, an illustrator, and a publisher, as well as the difference between fiction and non-fiction. Maybe plant the seeds for some future authors as we get to witness daily the many adventures these creative kids have stored in their minds.

We wish you many safe and adventure filled July! Ms Vicki, Ms Shanny, Ms Julie

Toddlers

Hello Toddler Families!

We had such a wonderful start to the summer in the

month of June! We had all kinds of fun experiences:

face painting, visits from different safety

departments, the bounce house, the rad zoo visit, and

our first visit from the ice cream truck. We didn’t even

let the rain ruin our first Water Day of the summer!

Needless to say, we have been doing lots of activities

and enjoying plenty of time outdoors.

The fun continues in July as we move on to themes such as picnics,

beach fun, pirates and mermaids, and camping. We have some great

activities planned, as well as some delicious cooking activities! We also

have an awesome bubble party planned for this month!

I’d like to take a moment to wish Liam Pierson the best of luck as he

starts his transition to preschool next week. The Toddler Room won’t be

quite the same without Liam, but we know he’s going to enjoy his time in

Children’s House 1. I’d also like to welcome Ben Nykiel, who will be

transitioning from Ms. Abby’s room next week. We’re excited to have him

and his family join the Toddler Room!

As always, you may contact me anytime if you have any questions or

concerns. My email address is [email protected], or you

can contact me by phone or in person here at Radiant.

Thank you,

Ms. Amanda, Ms.

Kari, and Ms. Isabelle

Infant Room

Hi Families!

This month in the infant room we had a lot of

fun jumping, climbing and learning to crawl

and walk! Our favorite lessons this month

were recognizing patterns, providing objects

when requested and making a simple toy.

Have a great July!
