TRANSCRIPT
The master plan for our parish campus is very comprehensive and very costly. I realize that we will need to make decisions based on the feedback that we receive from you, our parishioners, in or-der to decide how much we can actually afford to accomplish and what priorities surface based on your input. Rather than presenting you with a plan that would already set the priorities that might be afford-able and practical, we want as many people involved in this process as possible from the be-ginning. Thus, over the course of the last several months we have asked for the input of our parish through parish-wide town hall meetings and online and paper surveys. Based on that input we came up with a very comprehen-sive plan for the renovation of the church and school. Determining priorities and conducting an actual capital cam-paign will be based on the input you give us NOW. Please, take time to respond to the survey we mailed out to you. If you are tech savvy, you can take the survey online by finding a link from our

parish website. We have enlisted the help of The Steier Group, a catholic consultant group specializing in fund raising. Thank you to everyone who has participated in our planning study at St. Paul. Your input will go a long way in helping us effectively plan for the future of our parish and school. We en-courage everyone who has not responded to do so. We are hopeful to have all completed surveys by June 22. You may return your survey to the office or place it in the offertory basket at any Mass. The survey is also available online. Please see the bulletin for details. Thank you for your assistance is this important process. I believe that the plan we have developed is based on need more than “want” or “desire.” I would submit that the church renovation is an ex-tremely important need for this parish if we intend our school to help form our children into in-tentional, mission focused disci-ples of the Lord Jesus Christ. Worship forms us and the space we form for worship helps to develop us. The church is the most important classroom we have for our children in school and for those of us involved in life long faith and discipleship.

Questions to ponder this week: *Please … we need your input. What are you thoughts on the master plan developed for our parish? What changes would you make? What priorities should we set as we prepare for a possible capital campaign? Please fill out your survey … thanks to those who already have.
Don Blough: Ready, set … Go across the globe to help others! On June 17th, Don Blough, along with several other parishioners will travel to Haiti to lay the initial ground-work to establish a sister parish in the Grand Brois area, which is an impoverished community in the east cen-tral mountains. They will meet with the local priest to determine the health, education and business develop-ment needs of the community and research the best ways our St. Paul’s community can provide assistance in the future.
This exciting trip is not the first step of Don’s faith journey. His calling began many years ago, with a simple desire to help others. Don explains, “My strongest wish was always to be useful. I was very blessed from day one to be surrounded by useful people. My parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, BVM nuns and teachers all gave me great examples of how important it was to try to make a difference in someone else's life.”
Don’s decision to study psychology and finish his graduate work in Rehabilitation counseling was his first concrete long-term commitment to answer his calling to help others. For six years, he worked with people who were physically or mentally, handicapped, along with those who abused alcohol and drugs.
After having children, Don says his calling seemed to change into being a father and provider. Don explains, “My kid’s births opened up a rebirth of my own. I wanted to offer the same blessings I received during my Catholic upbringing. I still cared about other people, but now my main focus was to keep my family healthy and happy, along with making sure my kids received the best education possible.”
Now that Don is retired after 28 years in the insurance industry and his children are grown, he can play the wonderful role of "poppa" to his grandchildren and still make time to help others. Don’s work at the Friendly House and Humility of Mary training program have been very meaningful to him, however, he felt a need to expand beyond the local needs of our Quad Cities community.
Don’s uncle Paul introduced him to the needs in Haiti several years ago. He was a retired doctor who went to Haiti for a month and ended up staying and volunteering for 20 years.
Having already taken several service trips to Haiti on his own, Don was pleased when Fr. Tony expressed his desire to have St. Paul's establish a sister parish in a developing country.
Don says “I am very confident as the people of St Paul’s are introduced and get know the people of Haiti that feeling of usefulness will expand at an unbelievable pace. There will be many ways we can help our future sister parish, but please understand we at St. Paul's can also be helped in many ways by forming a caring rela-tionship with these people. I have always re-ceived much more from my visits than I was able to give.”
If anyone from St. Paul's have any specific ques-tions you’d like to have answered while they are in Haiti, please feel free to give Don a call at 563-320-7265.
Thank you Don for being such a gift to our St. Pauls parish! God bless you and your travelling companions on this important journey to Haiti! May God multiply your effort to help as many people as possible! (Photo left to right : Kaylon Spengler, Tom Roche, Don Blough, and

St. Paul the Apostle Planning Study You may be aware that we are conducting a comprehensive survey of the entire parish. The purpose of the sur-
vey is to help gauge support for the following projects that constitute our strategic plan to address key mainte-
nance issues and facility improvements at the church and school. These projects include:
Capital Improvements to the Church
• Restoration and redesign of the main body of the church
(nave)
• More functional and welcoming gathering space for pa-
rishioners
• Preserving and protecting our stained glass windows
• Tuck-pointing brick and stone
Capital Improvement to the School
• Additional classroom and office space
• Relocate Fine Arts into the main school building
• Upgrades to safety and handicapped accessibility
• Addition of a regulation sized gymnasium
• Purchase Rusholme St.
We hope to have all surveys completed by June 22. You may return your survey to the office or place it in the offertory basket at any Mass.
You may also complete the survey online by going to www.steiergroup.com/survey. Then, click on St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and enter the password “davenport”.
If you move this summer,
don’t forget to contact the parish
office and update your address.

Mentoring Ministry. In this the Jubilee Year of Mercy, we are reminded
of the Corporal Work of Mercy, Visiting the Imprisoned. But some-
times that means helping those as they finish their imprisonment. It
might also mean walking side-by-side with someone as they navigate
their way through a diversion program, one that allows them to meet
their obligation to society while foregoing a prison sentence. Catholic
Charities of the Diocese of Davenport provides mentors to folks coming
out of prison as well as those in diversion programs like Drug
Court. We will have a two hour information and training session for
those wanting to learn more about this ministry on Tuesday, July 5th at
6:00 PM in the conference room in the parish office.
For more information please contact Kent Ferris at
[email protected] or 563-888-4211
or Deacon Bob Shaw 563-528-5531.
We would like to congratulate all
of our High School graduates.
Please help us by sending your
graduate’s name to the parish of-
fice by Monday, June 13th.
