colored clothing.

you dehydrated. Look for

sunscreens that say “broad

spectrum” or “UVA/UVB

protection” on their labels;

these products work best.

buildings as much as

possible.

Do not rely on a fan as your primary cooling

device during an extreme heat event.

Drink plenty of water and don’t wait until

you’re thirsty.

assistance.

After Parade CelebrationWhile the pouring rain did not allow us to enjoy the pool or the many planned outdoor activities, the

celebration continued at the Club House indoors. Games for adults and children were available as well as the

cake walk and freshly grilled burgers and hot dogs.

Our thanks and appreciation go out to the following volunteers and those who donated prizes: Amber

Stepanik, who coordinated the celebration, as well as Chris Helfrich, Sarah Socias, Sue Ann Lurcott, Mary

Jacobi, Gordon Zentz, Ivan and Gloria Islas, Marla Wade, David Obert, Tricia McAdow, Lori Pradu, Emily

Rawcliff, Serenity Stepanik and Mike Stepanik as well as the Greenwood Forest HOA Board members who

were able to attend.

Apologies to any volunteers or prize donators we missed.

4 THE FOREST NEWS August 2018

Congratulations and thanks to all the ladies who

worked to create the Women’s Club float for the

Annual Greenwood 4th of July Parade and who

provided the yummy treats for the occasion. Special

thanks go to Kevin and Sharon Guge for hosting the

decorating party and to Todd for towing our float in

the parade. Doris Johnson and her three adorable

great granddaughters braved the pouring rain to ride

the entire route to the clubhouse.

The party at the clubhouse was fun for all who came

out to eat hot dogs, hamburgers and nachos and play

bingo while the band played ’60s rock music.

The Women’s Club is open to all Greenwood resi-

dents and meets on the 2nd Thursday morning of

each month during the school year. The September

meeting will be a time to get together with friends

and learn about what’s going on in our community.

Speakers from the water board and the homeowners

association have been invited to share their plans with

us. Later in the year we will learn some interesting

things about the birds in our area and a bit about

current fashions. September is also the time to sign

up for the various special interest groups. Bookies,

bridge, antiques group, quilters, and the wine & food

group will be getting organized and planning pro-

grams and trips for the coming year.

Dues can be paid now to Treasurer Nancy Strange.

To be included in the directory, dues must be paid

by the end of the 1st meeting on September 13th.

Membership forms will be sent in an email to last

year’s members or you can use the form that is

Safety & Security

VEHICLE BURGLARIES

It was mentioned in last month’s article that Con-

stables had seen a marked increase in vehicle burglar-

ies in surrounding contracts. That increase has now

surfaced in Greenwood Forest with 7 reported break-

ins in 5 days, and only half the month is behind us.

All of the burglaries involved unlocked vehicles. More disturbing is that increased patrols found 2

groups of teenagers at 3 am and 4 am walking our

streets “looking into and touching” vehicles. Two of

the children were 12 and 13 years old. Parenting or

lack thereof comes to mind.

TRAFFIC

In response to the increased traffic issue here in

Greenwood, Precinct 4’s Special Operations Unit

was assigned to assist our deputies a few days during

this last month. The increased patrols resulted in a

marked increase in traffic citations mostly for speed-

ing and stop signs. The majority of these citations were to our residents. Many thanks to Constable

Mark Herman for the extra patrols.

HOME BURGLARY THWARTED

An additional thanks is in order for our deputies and

Precinct 4 for the quick response and successful inves-

tigation of a recent burglary of a home in Green-

wood Forest. A homeowner surprised 3 criminals in

his house upon returning home and quickly called

the constables. The crooks initially escaped with some

of the homeowner’s possessions, but before the end

of the day, all 3 plus an associate were arrested and

a portion of the stolen material was recovered. The

investigation continues.

A REMINDER

Our constables are here to help us no matter how

insignificant you might think your issue is. If you see something say something. Call our constables at

THANK YOU, LIFEGUARDS

The Greenwood Forest HOA Board wishes to thank

all of our lifeguards for their hard work since the pool

opened. They have maintained an orderly and pleas-

ant environment for everyone.

As a reminder, any person or child who cannot swim

the entire length of the pool unaided is considered

a non-swimmer and must be monitored full time by

their parent or guardian. This means that the non-

swimmer must be within arm’s reach of a capable

adult at all time to be in the main pool.

If the lifeguards were to spend all their time keeping

an eye on a non-swimmer, they could not properly

monitor all patrons of the pool. Please keep this in

mind for the safety of all of all swimmers.

GARAGE SALE LEFTOVERS NEEDED

Attention residents…

If you are planning to hold an estate sale or garage

sale in the upcoming months, don’t forget about

donations for our annual Garden Club garage sale

ances, household goods such as dishes, glasses, decora-

tive items, etc. Please contact Carol at (281) 440-4864

our garage sale will be earmarked for neighborhood

beautification projects.
