STRUCTURE 7
When the session goes from juicy tricks to a wet set of streets, its about that time to make your way over to the multistory castle of dryness we like to call structure 7. For years this place has given AZ a dry place to do your shifty flips and nollie bonelesses. The steep parking garage downgrades allow enough slope to try and be a pro longboard champion, with markers right down the middle so you can practice slolom, cause everyone should know how to slolom (take notes).
The steel girtters provide an excelent mixture of length and slide capabilities to get super tech, (Nollie illusion flip back tail 270) *no one has done that, and probably never will but you get what I mean* Theres something about those rainy nights in the valley of the sun that get us all hyped up to bomb some hills, buy some wendys and enjoy the evening.
If your lucky enough to bomb down to the second floor, on your right is a nice set of well used wall rides grindable curbs and gaps, get yo trick on, maybe even get a line.
Once all is shredded, and your still getting some downpour, the nice ASU security team was grateful enough to drop by some movable orange barriers that double as ledges. Take that shit all the way to the top, ollie over it, boardslide it, the possabilities are endless, which is what makes this spot one of the best to skate during the monsoon, and a solid choice as our first “spotlight”.

If you’ve gotten the chance to pop Brad Evan’s “Bright Ideas” into your dvd player since its premiere release in January, you’ll know that their crew fucks with some good street skating. You’ll also know Shawn Patricks part in it is pretty fucked up. Shawn and Austin Calvello threw a few tricks together for my camera the other night, and With another set video to release from a combo of Brad and Shawn Patrick behind the lens. “Get turtle”will be pretty fucked as well. Keep an eye on these guys their killing it.

Of course Cowtown has shops valleywide from Glendale to downtown Phoenix, and even Union Hills. Upon taking a closer look, somehow with several stores opening their doors, each Cowtown location has a hint of something different to it. Yes your always going to get hometown feel with a local shop lurker or two sitting around watching Arizona’s great bounty of hometown videos. In tempe alone there has to be about 5 different crews of skaters and filmers making full length videos as we speak. Those large scale crews gather footage through asu and other local hot spots. I asked Peaches and Jahir of the Tempe location a few questions about it.
Describe to me what you guys personally think of the local scene.
Peach : the scene is thriving, it attracts everyone, mostly from the midwest, its like a group of great local and transplanted new blood skaters. theres definitely more skateboarders in tempe then I’ve seen in general. Jahir: pretty badass
How has tempe’s cowtown influenced how arizona skating is today?
Peach: the only influence cowtown has is that we are a real skateshop thats here for skateboarders of all walks of life weather you are that kid thats getting his first board or that dad who use to skate and wants to revisit the his childhood.
Jahir: Cowtown is like a place where people can meet, come out and interact with others. It almost acomidates the skate scene,
if we weren’t here there would always be a designated spot for people to meet up, but cowtown has basically become the love park for people to meet up before going to another spot.
Jahir, What sort of mentality do you think local skaters get walking into this place?
Jahir: im not sure about the mentality but i do feel like they can come here and just hang with like minded people.. theres no real age division. its almost like a club that anyone can join. there aren’t many places that can deliver that feel.
Peach, how many local videos have you seen pass through? and how have they influenced? Peaches: If had to pick a number i would have to say 33 local videos in Arizona alone. Theres not one video that has gotten past me, I’m pretty much the biggest skate nerd in Arizona i just dont say anything.
COWTOWNARTICLE
Seems like its become notorious in a sense to move over close to ash avenue making it sort of a territory for skaters to meet up and head to ASU or go skate, and be apart of the “in crowd”. What do you guys think?
Peaches: I totally agree, just being in the epicenter for skateboarding in tempe, but its definitely a hub for skateboarding in arizona.
Jahir: its something thats known, but somehow never really spoken about, the law of attraction, people like something, so they come.

I decided to take an accumulated amount of photos that i shot over a majority of the 3 months it took to create this magazine, and comprise it into a full featured college, its awesome to capture the life that is skateboarding and I tried my best to accomplish it within this two page spread. filmers setting up, driving to spots, hijynx, skating in its most raw form.
