What is the HAZMATCADTM?

The HAZMATCAD™ is a next generation handheld trace chemical agent detector for Nerve (G) and Blister (H) agents as well as Hydrogen Cyanide (AC) or Phosgene (CG). The HAZMATCAD™ is designed to detect for these warfare agent gases with minimal interference from other chemicals which are often present in the battlefield or urban environment.

The HAZMATCAD™ Plus expands the

performance of HAZMATCAD™ by adding the ability to detect selected TICs (Toxic Industrial Chemicals). These chemicals are detected and reported by class identification (hydride and halogen gases).

Check Source Verification

Chemical Simulant for “G” Agent−Dimethyl Methlyphosphonate (DMMP)

Verify Check Source Expiration Date−6 months from date on tube−MSDS - Appendix A in Operation Manual

A Successful Test indicates the HAZMATCADTM is fully operational for Nerve and Blister Agent Detection

No need to test separately for Blister

Page 32: Proudly Introduces HAZMATCAD™ HAZMATCAD™ PLUS ©MSA 2004 All Rights Reserved

How to use Simulant Check Source

Power Up HAZMATCADTM

Allow HAZMATCADTM to report “ALL CLEAR”

Prepare Check Source - remove vinyl end caps

Position Sample Inlet to “OPEN” position

Listen for Pump Operation−When pump pauses, wait 10 seconds−Hold Simulant Check Source to Sample Inlet for

3 seconds then remove

“G” Alarm should be indicated on next analysis

Allow HAZMATCADTM to return to “ALL CLEAR”

HAZMATCADTM Decontamination

Turn HAZMATCAD OFF

Place the three position sample port in the CLOSED position

Wipe down completely with moist, soapy cloth

Shake HAZMATCAD briskly to remove residual liquid

Place three position sample port in OPEN position and invert HAZMATCAD for two minutes

Wipe dry with clean towel, paper towel or clean rag

Place the HAZMATCAD in a sealed bag for one hour

Sample the headspace of the bag using another HAZMATCAD, M256 kit or other appropriate device

If residual contamination is detected, repeat steps 1 thru 8

Page 35: Proudly Introduces HAZMATCAD™ HAZMATCAD™ PLUS ©MSA 2004 All Rights Reserved

HAZMATCADTM Check forInternal Contamination

Place an operating HAZMATCAD in a large plastic bag and seal it

Let the HAZMATCAD run for 60 minutes

Sample the headspace of the bag with another HAZMATCAD, M256 kit or other appropriate device for trace contamination

If contamination is detected, run the HAZMATCAD in clean air for several hours and repeat steps 1 thru 3

If HAZMATCAD still shows traces of contamination, contact Microsensor Systems, Inc. or the appropriate government agency
