!Brief+Description+of+the+Programme+

The%programme%is%intended%as%a%progression%for%students%who%have%studied%social%science%to%level%5%and%want%to%complete%their%undergraduate%education%with%a%specific%focus%on%human%behavioural%studies.%The%programme%comprises%of%two%compulsory%modules%and%three%optional%modules.%All%students%will%undertake%an%independent%study%including%the%data%collection%and%analysis%culminating%in%a%written%report%and%conference%presentation.%The%second%compulsory%module%focuses%on%five%contemporary%issues%in%human%behavioural%studies%that%link%to%local%employment%opportunities.%There%are%then%a%range%of%three%other%applied%modules,%again%with%strong%links%to%local%employer%needs.%%

OTHER)MODULE)STAFF:!))Summary)of)Module)Content)%This!module!will!investigate!classic!developmental!disorders!such!as!ADHD!and!ASD!that!have!been!identified!as!‘disorders’!by!psychiatrists!for!decades.!It!will!look!at!the!controversy!surrounding!the!diagnosis!of!such!disorders!and!question!the!system!used!to!diagnose!them!as!well!as!the!implications!of!being!diagnosed!for!the!child!and!for!the!education!system.!It!will!also!question!the!validity!of!the!system!that!allows!such!over!diagnosis!as!well!as!under!diagnosis!of!these!disorders.!In!addition,!this!module!will!explore!whether!it!is!the!diagnostic!system!that!is!allowing!us!to!create!‘new’!disorders!such!as!Disruptive!Mood!Dysregulation!Disorder,!or!whether!it!is!merely!identifying!disorders!that!are!the!result!of!the!changing!world!in!which!children!are!being!raised!in.!!

Finally,!the!world!in!which!children!are!developing!has!altered!dramatically!over!the!last!decade!or!two.!This!is!invariably!going!to!result!in!changes!not!only!in!the!way!that!children!are!developing,!but!possibly!in!new!disorders!emerging.!This!module!will!also!look!at!the!literature!regarding!the!effects!of!contemporary!influences!on!development!such!as!social!networking,!same!sex!parenting!and!step!families!and!question!whether!these!influences!will!eventually!result!in!further!developmental!disorders.!
