SCHOOL VISION:

East Bentleigh Primary School provides a rich, inviting, child-focused

environment ensuring that all students feel safe and stimulated. Our students are

able to achieve their full academic, creative and social potential, equipped for the

challenges of lifelong learning. Students develop into healthy and confident

individuals, actively contributing to the world in which they live.

Hello everyone,

I hope this communication finds you all fit and well, ready for the next few weeks

that will test all of our energies in the busy lead up to the end of the year.

As I said last time, I encourage you all to look closely at our calendar as there are

many events scheduled over the next few weeks, with our Founding Fathers and the

Band-She’s rock concert at the end of November which is an event not to be

missed. Add to this our regular Bentleigh Farmers’ Market and State Election both on

the same day (24th November) we are all set to be very busy.

2019 Student Leadership

It is an exciting time for our Grade 5 students at the moment because it is at this time

of the year our selection process for our Student Leadership team takes place. The

teachers and I will be working through this process with the students in the next few

weeks. We will talk about and ask our Year 5’s to think about the following very

important facts - that student leadership within the school environment comes with

responsibilities which includes being a strong and positive role model for others and

promoting our school values:

* by setting an example for fellow students,

* by participating in all house sporting events and school activities,

* by acting responsibly,

* by being confident and well spoken,

* by being supportive of other children encouraging tolerance & compassion,

* by displaying leadership qualities and a team approach,

* by adhering to the school code of conduct

* by being punctual to school and having high attendance at school.

All of the above are what we see as vital components of strong leadership in our

students.

There are three stages involved for the selection of our student leadership team for

2019. Firstly interested students will be asked to submit written applications by Friday

16th November.

Student Speeches will be held on Friday 23rd November at 11:30am, then finally

those students wishing to apply for a School Captain position will sit an interview on

Monday 26th November.

I wish all of our students who would like to be considered the very best of luck. All

positions will be announced at the Awards Assembly on Monday 17th December.

Prep Transition

In an indication that we are entering the time of the year that seems to disappear before our eyes in schools we will

be holding the first of our prep transition afternoons here tomorrow, where the new intake of students for 2019 make

their first formal visit to the world of school. It is always a very exciting and sometimes emotional afternoon for children

and adults alike. Whilst the children share some time with their peers and teachers in the classrooms, new parents will

have the opportunity to learn more about our school and get to know one another over some refreshments.

Founding Fathers and the Band-Shes Rock Concert

The date for our annual social ‘knees up’ is coming up very quickly. Have you booked your ticket for what promises to

be a fabulous event yet? If not, simply go to www.TryBooking.com/YLZG or contact the office to purchase your ticket.

Jon and Richard tell us that the band has been rehearsing hard to ensure they are totally on song for Friday 30th

November.

Remember this is a ‘Dress up’ event. Come dressed in your favourite musical era gear. It should be lots of fun.

As always we are looking for people to help with serving at the BBQ, and other tasks on the night. Please let Lucy

Angell know if you can help - [email protected] or 0400 582 910.

Walkathon

A reminder that our annual fundraiser for State Schools Relief, a not for profit organisation that does so much to

support children in government schools across Victoria, and Very Special Kids will be held on Monday 19th November.

Sponsorship forms have been sent home with your child. Let’s see if all our combined efforts can make this our biggest

event to date.

A DATE FOR YOUR DIARIES-Parent Helpers Morning Tea

We will be holding this annual event again this year on Thursday 6th December at 10:30am in the senior gallery. This is

one way our teaching staff can say thank you to our many parents and helpers who help out with our programs

throughout the year.

Enrolments for 2019

These are still being taken - if you know of any sibling enrolments in either stream for next year would you please ask

the parents concerned to let us know in the office. We are well into our planning for Prep and all other classes for

2019, so it is imperative that we have an accurate view of numbers in order to ensure adequate planning.

Until next time…………...Maria Shearn - Principal

FOUNDING FATHERS AND THE BAND-SHEs

Preparations have begun for the EBPS party of the year. The parent band is

back in the rehearsal studio and the lycra is coming out of storage.

Mark your calendar to come and join the fun on Friday 30 November in the

school hall. Tickets now available on www.trybooking.com/YLZG or the school

office.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! This will be the community’s evening of

celebration, and there are 2 ways you could contribute:

1. Volunteer for an hour or so on the night.

2. Donate an item for the Silent Auction fundraiser.

We know our community is full of practitioners, service providers, artists…

this is a wonderful opportunity to share your business with us while also

supporting the kids! If you would like to do either of these things, or get

involved in any way, please contact LUCY ANGELL on

[email protected] or 0400 582 910. (Mum to Reuben in Prep S)

Parent Information

Nude Food Tuesdays Each Tuesday the Environmental Team are holding a Nude Food Tuesday

where we are aiming to have rubbish free lunches and snacks.

We did fairly well this week. You can see our rubbish below. We had less this

week than last week. No classes were completely rubbish free.

Well done to Prep H and 4 P who only had 1 piece of rubbish each.

Well done to all children who had a rubbish free lunch and snack this week,

you are helping our environment.
