Year 6 Fete - Tuesday 22 October Tomorrow is our annual Fundraiser for our Year 6 end of year events. Students in Year 6 will be running a Fete and offering a range of activities and stalls for the rest of the school. The stalls will range in cost from 20c to $3. Year 6 students only are allowed to wear non-uniform clothes tomorrow. Thank you in advance for supporting our fundraiser. Canberra Year 6 students are looking forward to their three day excursion to Canberra in Week 5. Parents, if you have not yet filled in the two forms (medical information and personal indemnity) they are available on the website and need to be returned as soon as possible. Bushfire Smoke Our hearts go out to the victims of the bushfires. At school we are dealing with the smoke as best as we can providing options for the students to sit quietly in the hall if they choose to. We encourage parents to advise chil-dren who have asthma, to carry their ventolin with them at all times. Hugh Hogan Relieving Deputy Principal

Healthy Kids Association

Fluid For Healthy Kids Drinking fluid is essential to stay alive. Water is the best fluid for everyone to drink as it is important for tempera-ture regulation, digestion, transportation of nutrients around the body, kidney function and elimination of waste products. Water also cushions organs and joints from injury and pressure. It is so important that the body can only survive a few days without it. If we encourage children to drink water from an early age, it is likely that this good habit will continue into adult-hood. Dehydration can result from not drinking enough water. This affects concentration and increases stress, head-aches, lethargy, dry itchy skin and constipation. For adults who drink beverages such as alcohol and those that contain caffeine, such as coffee or cola drinks, these drinks actually increase the amount of water lost from the body by increasing urine output. Drinking large amounts of these beverages leads to a greater need for fluid. Sugary beverages such as fruit juices, fruit drinks, cordials, flavoured mineral waters, soft drinks and sports drinks are high in sugar and are of little nutritional value and therefore should be limited to occasional drinks. Milk is an alternative to water as a nutritious choice. It is recommended to choose reduced fat dairy to limit the amount of saturated fat in the diet. Download the fact sheet to see the benefits of milk https://healthy-kids.com.au/content/upload/files/Milk%20What%20is%20it%20good%20for%202012.pdf This information is adapted from information provided by Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Service.
