The transition to online has been successful although there were some issues on Tuesday with the writing which has been reported in the news. For our students, however, the disruption was very minor and they all finished well within the timeframe. Thank you Mr Hieke who was a great help in so much of the background setup and finalising the tests This weekend will see our school again used as an election polling venue. While voting is generally not considered the most exciting pastime, our Stage 3 students have been studying democracy and finding out some very interesting things. For example, did you know that you can be a member of parliament if you have been to prison, provided it was for less than a year? More importantly, the election is a great opportunity for our P&C to raise funds for our school which dont come from parents. We appreciate all the cake donations that will make the stall a success. I also appreciate all the effort our P&C has invested lately. To pull off two election day cake stalls and a very busy farm sale in such a short space of time is incredible. Thank you. This week we received some info from the bus company with a focus on safety. It was a timely reminder to be careful and alert not only around our school bus stop, but also around other pick up and drop off points. Have a democratic week, Mark Cridland Principal NAPLAN is done and dusted and went off without any major issues. Well Done! to Years 3 and 5 on the great way they focussed and approached the online testing. Year 5 unanimously said they preferred doing it online to the old pencil and paper test. We should also get the results much faster. Mr Hieke

Term 2 Week 3 Newsletter 12 17th May 2019 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Its NAPLAN o’clock again with Year 3 and 5 sitting their assessments this week. The transition to online has been successful although there were some issues on Tuesday with the writing which has been reported in the news. For our students, however, the disruption was very minor and they all finished well within the timeframe. Thank you Mr Hieke who was a great help in so much of the background setup and finalising the tests

This weekend will see our school again used as an election polling venue. While voting is generally not considered the most exciting pastime, our Stage 3 students have been studying democracy and finding out some very interesting things. For example, did you know that you can be a member of parliament if you have been to prison, provided it was for less than a year?

More importantly, the election is a great opportunity for our P&C to raise funds for our school which don’t come from parents.

Have a democratic week,

Mark Cridland

Principal

LIBRARY NEWS

There may be some disruptions to library visits and borrowing this term, starting

next week. Students are asked to still bring in library bags and books for

returning and I will give them a chance to borrow if I can.

However, next week we are having some structural work done in the library to

support the roof. No, the library roof is not about to fall in. Apparently the

Department of Education is strengthening the structure of it’s heritage buildings

in case of earthquakes! I believe this is in response to the collapse of a heritage

building during an earthquake in Queensland a few years ago? I know our tough

old library held out against the Newcastle earthquake so I don’t think it’s about to

fall apart any time soon!

The other work to be done on the library, in the very near

future, is the replacing of the roof sheeting which is looking

decidedly rusty. Hopefully this work will stop the leaking issues

that crop up every time we get heavy rain! Fingers crossed!

Finally, next Wednesday, 22nd May, our school will be

participating in National Simultaneous Storytime. This year’s

book is Alpacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove. Students with

their own copy may like to bring it along on the day. If you

want to know more about this event, check out the banner below.
