The holidays can be about many things to many people, but one commonality is that the holidays are about family. Traditionally it’s about bringing together family members that haven’t seen each other in a while and hopefully gather to share in good cheer and celebration. Of course there are always stories of challenges that bringing family together can present. Family is not easy. Family requires effort. Personality conflicts and recalling past hurts can very easily turn a good time into a bad situation. In response to these times St. Paul sets a high bar for us in our second reading. He knows the challenges that we experience in living with one another so he exhorts us to live with “heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another.” Consider the circumstances of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, Joseph’s intention to quietly divorce her, the necessity of the journey to Bethlehem, and when they arrived, the only place that they could find refuge was in a stable with the animals when the birth of Jesus was imminent. And after he was born, they laid him in the manager, the place where the animals ate their food. Imagine yourself in this situation and ask yourself how would you feel if you were in this situation. We could easily imagine ourselves feeling very upset. But in that stable, in that manger, was God in human flesh with his human parents at his side, in humility and gentleness, bearing with the situation together. The Holy Family is our model in life. Although Jesus is God made man, and Mary was sinless and full of grace, their lives were not without struggle and challenges. Herod wanted to find the Christ child and kill him. They had to flee to Egypt. They had plenty of reason to be fearful or angry. But through it all, God was with them, always guiding them to safety. We have to ask ourselves, how do our lives compare with theirs? Are we any less important to God? God is just as present to us as He was with them. As we prepare for the coming of the new year, let us keep in mind that as members of God’s family, God is always with us seeking to guide us. No matter the challenges that life has in store for us, if we walk with God and invite Him to dwell within us, we will have the peace that only He can give. If Jesus could accept the manger for his bed, can we demand more? May the peace and joy of the newborn Christ child dwell within you and may your family be blessed during this Christmas season.

A HUGE Thank You!
“Prince of Peace Comes Through”
A couple of Fridays ago I emailed the coordinator for the Catholic Charities gift giving program and told him our total number of gift cards was over $3000 and I would be dropping them off after our last weekend of collecting. He emailed back and said, “Prince of Peace Comes Through!” Last week after our final weekend, we were able to donate over $10,000 in gift cards to the gift giving program! When I dropped them off, the coordinator told me they had just run out of gifts for the kids and would have to start turning people away. With our donations, many more children will be able to be served this Christmas.
And… true to the generosity and willingness of our parish, Prince of Peace shines forth once again. So ,on behalf of Catholic Charities but more importantly on behalf of all of the children they will serve, I would like to say THANK YOU! We are truly an example of the light shining forth this season.
God’s Blessings,
Deacon Jim
Your Help is Needed Now More Than Ever
During these difficult times many families are in need of our support. COVID has made us rethink the best way to support our local food pantries. Although we WILL NOT collect food at this time, we are collecting donations. Donations allow the pantry to purchase the most needed items, when they need it. Any amount is greatly appreciated and helps restock the pantries.
From now until the end of the month we will be collecting monetary donations for Most Blessed Trinity’s Food Pantry in Waukegan.
To donate, following these three simple steps; MAKE, LABEL and DROP and we’ll do the rest.
1. Make a check payable to: Most Blessed Trinity Food Pantry
2. Label the envelope - “MBT Food Pantry” and insert check or cash
3. Drop the envelope into one of the collection boxes in the church.
Thank you for your support!

Weekend Stewardship Collection For the weekend of December 12-13, 2020
Total Envelopes $10,847.94
Electronic Giving $ 2,714.50
TOTAL COLLECTION $13,562.44
“...as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must forgive.” (Colossians 3:13)
Forgiving is one of the hardest things for people to do. We can’t give what we don’t have. We need to receive God’s mercy and forgiveness first before we can give it to others. Go to the sacrament of Reconciliation and receive God’s mercy and forgiveness. Then, share the gift of forgiveness with someone - a family member, a friend or a co-worker. Pick up the phone or text someone right now.
Have You Considered eGiving for Your Sunday Contributions?
There is a “Donate” button on our parish website that you can use for your Sunday donations. This option takes you to the Give Central website, where you can sign up for a regular schedule of contributing that YOU set up. The schedule is completely up to you, and there are several frequency options including weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly.
You can also sign up for continued Electronic Giving for your Sunday Stewardship contributions through the parish, either by direct debit from your bank account or credit card, on a monthly or weekly basis. A form is available on the next page or on our parish website.
After signing up for electronic giving, never worry about forgetting your envelope again! It continues your support to Prince of Peace when you are out of town, on vacation or unable to attend Mass.
Parishioners who donate electronically to the Sunday collection receive a quarterly envelope packet, which contains envelopes for any special collections (i.e. St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Day & Archdiocesan collections) rather than the full monthly packet you receive now. Providing you with this new quarterly packet results in a savings to the parish.
If you prefer to write a check, or use cash, and use your envelopes, please deposit them in the collection box when you enter the church or mail your Sunday donations to the parish. Thank you for your continued support of Prince of Peace!!

ELECTRONIC GIVING FORM
Our Electronic Giving program assures a continuation of your support even when you are not here. We encourage all of our parishioners to seriously consider utilizing this program. Most of us find that we attend Mass at parishes other than Prince of Peace during the year, related to vacations, family events, etc. We have received positive comments from parishioners who already utilize this program such as, “this makes it so much easier” and “I have peace of mind knowing that when I am out of town my obligations have been met.”
Direct debits and credit cards can be processed dependent on your preference. Please see below for options. If you require a different schedule please call Barb Ruhl, in the parish office.
I (we) hereby authorize Prince of Peace Church, to initiate debits to my (our) account as indicated below. I (we) authorize the financial institution below, to credit the amount of such entries to my (our) account. This authority is to remain in full force and effect until I (we) revoke the agreement. Any revocation is effective only after Prince of Peace Church has received notification from me (us) to terminate this agreement in such time and manner as to afford a reasonable opportunity to act upon the notice.

A Prayer for Vocations:
Heavenly Father, Your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His vineyard.
We earnestly beg You to bless our Archdiocese and our world with many priests and religious men and women
who will love You fervently, and gladly and courageously spend their lives in service to Your Son’s Church under
the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We pray that their lives may be always centered on our Eucharistic Lord; that
they be always faithful to the Holy Father; and that they may be devoted sons and daughters of Mary, our
Mother, in making You known and loved; and that all may attain Heaven. Bless our families and our children and
choose from our homes those whom You desire for this holy work. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER HAS GONE VIRTUAL
As we celebrate Holy Family Sunday, let us remember that God’s love for us is reflected in the love for each other in our family. Why not celebrate and encourage that love by giving your spouse the gift of a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend? The next virtual experience is Jan. 12 to Feb 2, in a series of two sessions per week for three weeks of roughly 2 hours each, or for an experience during Lent, February 18 - March 31 once per week.

Please inform the parish office of any additions to your family, changes in member status or address changes. All Catholic adults, 18 years old and no longer in school, who live within the parish area should register in their own name. Active and supporting membership includes offering one’s time, talent and treasure to assist in promoting the Gospel and the mission of Prince of Peace Parish. Please help us maintain our parish records by registering or
advising us of changes as soon as possible. Welcome to Prince of Peace! We are glad you are here!
Prince of Peace staff and the Communications Ministry frequently videotape or photograph participants enjoying programs, Masses and other events at our facility. These photographs are taken for use in parish publications, flyers, our website, brochures and future materials. All photos and videos taken on Prince of Peace property are for parish use and become the sole property of the parish. If you or a member of your family does not wish to be photographed, please contact the parish office.
