I would like to introduce Fr. Harold (Hal) Stanger to the Prince of Peace community. Although officially retired from active ministry, many diocesan priests continue dedicated ministries serving in Chicago and beyond. Fr. Hal retired this past July from being pastor of St. Marcelline Parish in Schaumburg. A number of years ago, I mentioned to Fr. Hal that if he needs a place to live when he retires, there is always room for him at Prince of Peace.
I have known Fr Hal for 35 years. He taught me (and Deacon Chris Savage) at the high school seminary and was the priest I asked to vest me as a deacon. Fr. Hal was ordained in May 1977, and has a remarkable and diverse priesthood. His assignments include: St. Anne’s in Barrington, St. Francis de Sales in Lake Zurich, Seminary teacher at Quigley Preparatory Seminary North, the Vocations office, Holy Cross Parish in Deerfield, and St. Marcelline Parish in Schaumburg. Fr. Hal has also been a chaplain for the State Troopers for 20 years, where he played an integral role in bringing spiritual support to the men, women and the families of the Illinois State Police. Please welcome Fr. Hal to Prince of Peace when you see him, as he is very excited to meet you. Fr Hal’s presence will not affect our other retired priests, Fr. Mark Canavan and Fr. Jack Ryan. I wish you an enjoyable weekend and a truly blest and faith-filled week.

RCIA Classes Begin Soon!
Have you thought about becoming a Catholic? Are you a Catholic who has never moved beyond the Sacrament of Baptism? Do you know others who have mentioned an interest in learning about the Catholic religion, those never baptized or baptized in a different Christian religion? Or, do you know someone who was baptized Catholic but never received further instruction to receive First Communion and Confirmation? RCIA is here for all of you! This year’s RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) formation group is planning to begin meetings in September. Once you have made contact as listed below, we will keep you informed on our status and plans. People who meet the conditions mentioned in the questions above come together to learn about the Catholic religion in an adult learning environment. The class format allows and promotes interaction between the presenter and the participants, and asking questions is strongly encouraged. No commitment to become a member of the Catholic faith is required of those who attend until well into the process. All are welcome to come and see what the RCIA is all about and to join the group’s leader, Deacon Tim Leonard, on this journey of faith discernment. Please contact Deacon Tim at (847) 265-0686 or email [email protected] if you have an interest in exploring the Catholic faith or if you would like additional information. He’s waiting to hear from YOU!

Weekend Stewardship Collection For the weekend of September 5-6, 2020
Total Envelopes $10,007.00
Electronic Giving $12,126.50
TOTAL COLLECTION $22,133.50
“For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.” (Romans 14:8)
This is the essence of stewardship - everything we have and everything we are is a gift from God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts that God has given us, especially our very own lives. Pray to God daily and ask Him how He is calling you to live the life that He intended for you.
Next Sunday, September 20th, is the Archdiocese of Chicago’s collection for the Seminarian Education Fund, to assist future priests of the Archdiocese. If you receive envelopes, there should be an envelope in your packet for this collection. If you do not have an envelope & would like to donate, please make your check payable to Prince of Peace, place in an envelope & write “Seminarian Education Collection” on the outside, and place in one of the church collection boxes. Thank you!
How do I handle my Sunday Contributions during this Time …
For the past several months, while we were unable to attend Mass, and now that we cannot pass the collection basket at Mass, the Sunday contributions received have been significantly lower than what we normally experience. As our lives and finances are impacted during this time, please remember the church’s expenses continue. We are present to meet the needs of our parish community as we are able.
There is a “Donate Now” button on our parish website that you can use for your Sunday donations. You can also sign up for continued Electronic Giving for your Sunday Stewardship contributions, either by direct debit from your bank account or credit card, on a monthly or weekly basis. A form is available on the next page or on our parish website. After signing up, never worry about forgetting your envelope again! It continues your support to Prince of Peace when you are out of town, on vacation or unable to attend Mass.
Parishioners who donate electronically to the Sunday collection receive a quarterly envelope packet, which contains envelopes for any special collections (i.e. Sharing Parish, St. Vincent de Paul & Archdiocesan collections) rather than the full monthly packet you receive now. Providing you with this new quarterly packet results in a savings to the parish.
If you prefer to write a check, or use cash, and use your envelopes, please deposit them in the box when you enter the church or mail your Sunday donations to the parish. Thank you for your continued support of Prince of Peace!!

ELECTRONIC GIVING FORM
Our Electronic Giving program assures a continuation of your support even when you are not here. We encourage all of our parishioners to seriously consider utilizing this program. Most of us find that we attend Mass at parishes other than Prince of Peace during the year, related to vacations, family events, etc. We have received positive comments from parishioners who already utilize this program such as, “this makes it so much easier” and “I have peace of mind knowing that when I am out of town my obligations have been met.”
Direct debits and credit cards can be processed dependent on your preference. Please see below for options. If you require a different schedule please call Barb Ruhl, in the parish office.
I (we) hereby authorize Prince of Peace Church, to initiate debits to my (our) account as indicated below. I (we) authorize the financial institution below, to credit the amount of such entries to my (our) account. This authority is to remain in full force and effect until I (we) revoke the agreement. Any revocation is effective only after Prince of Peace Church has received notification from me (us) to terminate this agreement in such time and manner as to afford a reasonable opportunity to act upon the notice.

“But I feel a great destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a direct war, a direct killing, direct murder by the mother herself. And we read in the scripture, for God
says very clearly. "Even if a mother could forget her child, I will not forget you. I have carved you in the palm of My Hand." We are carved in the palm of His Hand; so close to Him, that unborn child has been carved in the Hand of God. And that is what strikes me most, the beginning of that sentence, that even a mother could forget something impossible—but even if she could forget -- "I will not forget you." And today the greatest destroyer of peace is abortion. And we who are standing here—our parents wanted us. We would not be here if our parents would do that to us.” – Lecture upon receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, Oslo, Norway, Dec. 11, 1979.

A Prayer for Vocations:
Heavenly Father, Your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His vineyard.
We earnestly beg You to bless our Archdiocese and our world with many priests and religious men and women
who will love You fervently, and gladly and courageously spend their lives in service to Your Son’s Church under
the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We pray that their lives may be always centered on our Eucharistic Lord; that
they be always faithful to the Holy Father; and that they may be devoted sons and daughters of Mary, our
Mother, in making You known and loved; and that all may attain Heaven. Bless our families and our children and
choose from our homes those whom You desire for this holy work. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Antioch Eye Associates
Children sometimes criticize and make fun of others; so do adults. Check yourself against these three criteria when criticizing your spouse (or anyone): Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? If not, it’s probably fault-finding or gossip.

Please inform the parish office of any additions to your family, changes in member status or address changes. All Catholic adults, 18 years old and no longer in school, who live within the parish area should register in their own name. Active and supporting membership includes offering one’s time, talent and treasure to assist in promoting the Gospel and the mission of Prince of Peace Parish. Please help us maintain our parish records by registering or
advising us of changes as soon as possible. Welcome to Prince of Peace! We are glad you are here!
Prince of Peace staff and the Communications Ministry frequently videotape or photograph participants enjoying programs, Masses and other events at our facility. These photographs are taken for use in parish publications, flyers, our website, brochures and future materials. All photos and videos taken on Prince of Peace property are for parish use and become the sole property of the parish. If you or a member of your family does not wish to be photographed, please contact the parish office.
