Kerrang! Is a UK-based magazine devoted to rock music published by Bauer Media Group. It was first published on June 6, 1981 as a one off supplement in the sounds newspaper. After the word that derives from the sound made when playing a power chord on an electric guitar, Kerrang! Was initially devoted to the New wave of British heavy metal and the rise of hard rock acts. In the early 2000s it became one of the best selling British music newspapers. The magazine appeals to a specific audience because it concerns topics and themes that are relevant to people who listen to and are interested by rock music and its background. Kerrang! identifies its audience as ‘individually minded, independent of thought and musically experienced, an audience defined by attitude, passion and loyalty’. Kerrang sees their identity as a world ‘where Jackass meets Play station. On 01-Jul-2008 to 31-Dec-2008 Kerrang!‘s sales in the UK and the Republic of Ireland were at a high of 50,128 insuring it remained the market-leading music weekly. These figures display that Kerrang! is a successful magazine despite its audience being one demographic entity.

It is evident that the magazine is aimed at a young audience, through the use of graphics, fonts, layouts and presentation. Kerrang! is aimed at the youth and their lifestyles

Kerrang! VS Blender

This is Kerrang! Rock music magazine. The images in this magazine are very different to the Images in a magazine like Blender. The feature image of this magazine is a image by the band Slipknot. This image represents the bands characteristics and therefore is more eye-catching for the fans of Kerrang! Magazine. The price and barcode are placed together on the left hand side to make it look more neat and presentable , also to save space for more features to add to the magazine front page. This magazine doesn’t have as many advertisements, it is very simple but looks efficient. A R&B music magazine has mainly the most famous/ popular artist and some gossip on celebrities. Kerrang! Also has relevant topics but mainly about Rock music and artists, reviews on albums and songs.

This is Blender Music magazine. This magazine is mainly based on hip hop artists and R&B artists too. The feature image of this magazine is TI, who is a well known artists who's collaborated with Rihanna and many other artist. This image isn't as revealing as the other feature images, Blender advertises. This is a head shot and is very simple, the front page consists of some advertisements of certain things like reviews on celebrities etc. but it still looks efficient. The barcode is on the right hand side and the date is besides it. The price tag is on the left hand side so people can see It clearly. The eyebrows are very eye-catching because the text is big and bold.
