A gateway for you to search for materials in the Library Books 書 / e-books 電子書 Journals 期刊 / e-journals 電子期刊 Newspapers & Magazines 報紙及雜誌 AV Materials 影音資料 Course Reserves 指定參考資料

The Library materials can be searched by: Title 書名 Author 作者名 Call No. 索書號 Keyword 關鍵字 (any part of the author, title, publisher)

Scenario One: If I want to find books for my research project but don’t have any titles/authors in mind

Question: I want to find books for my research project on Hong Kong’s Banking industry?

Answer:

1. Search the Library Catalogue by keywords (“hong kong ” and bank*) in the Advanced Search page

2. Limit the Year as “After 2005”

1. Choose “Books, AV and More”2. Click “Advanced Search”

3. Type in the keywords and choose appropriate limitations, then click “Submit” button

Type the keyword you want to search for To LIMIT the results by

choosing:-Publishing YearYou may further limit your search to: -Location in the Library-Language of the item-Material type

Viewing Bibliographical Record After searching for books or other items in

the Library Catalogue, here below are important tips for you to find out WHERE the book is:

LOCATION of the item (where it is stored)

CALL NUMBER of the item (the exact address)

STATUS of the item (available now or not)

1. Click the link to view the location map

It means the item is available for borrowing now

2. Follow the call number to find the item on the bookshelf

Answer: Conduct a key word/advanced key word search in 1-Search.

The Boolean Operators AND, OR and NOT must be written in ALL CAPS.

Words in a specific order use " ". e.g. “public finance “, “hong kong”

Afterwards, you can see the book record in HKALL.
