Volume 25, Issue 5 May 2021 PASTOR’S NOTES I have mentioned repeatedly over the past year that the current phase that my 3-year-old Harry finds himself in has not been a particularly easy one for me. For almost a year I have been struggling to connect with my son as he throws tantrum after tantrum and gleefully does the exact opposite of what I ask him to do. Now though, I see some light. I am very pleased to announce that Harry has a new favorite television show. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe ran from 1983 to 1985 and was all the rage when I was Harry’s age. I am unashamed to say that He-Man was also my favorite show when I was young, and that yes, I did put the show on in front of him hoping that this would happen. Now it has happened. Now my son runs from room to room with a toy sword modeled after the one He-Man wields (I may or may not have received this sword as a gift in my late 30’s) yelling at the top of his tiny lungs “By the power of Greyskull, I have the power!!!” For the first time Harry asks me to turn on the tv and I excitedly say “Yes!” For the first time in a long time, I see myself in him and am pleased, as previously I was seeing myself in him and being decidedly unpleased. He is mine. I take responsibility with no reservation. Is this the reasoning behind God feeling about us the way he does, that he sees something of himself in us? I really don’t know. I just wanted to tell you about what I hope is the beginning of a new chapter. Now if you will excuse me, I’m going to put professional wrestling on in the room where my children play and see if anything happens… God’s peace be with you, Pastor Dan Morton 1 Council Meetings: 5TH- LITTLE NORWAY 7PM 11TH-CONCORDIA 7PM 12TH-FAABERG 7PM 18TH—MAPLE LAKE 7:30 PM 19TH—TRINITY 7PM In this Issue: Parish/Conc. PASTOR’S NOTES

I have mentioned repeatedly over the past year that the current phase that my 3-year-old Harry finds himself in has not been a particularly easy one for me. Now if you will excuse me, I’m going to put professional wrestling on in the room where my children play and see if anything happens… God’s peace be with you,

Pastor Dan Morton

FROM THE FAIR STAND

Yes, it sounds like there will be a fair this summer! We all know what that means, find your most comfortable shoes, find your more comfortable fair stand clothes, bake two pies, and bring a mask. The fair stand committee has already met to discuss the fair stand and how to go about preparing. We decided to use the 2019 shift lists as a starting place to this years’ fair shifts. There might be some moving of people around because some shifts will not need as many people as in 2019. A few changes we made are: There will be no day shift on Thursday, that shift will start at 3:00 to be ready to open at 4. The Friday and Saturday noon will not have a hot dish, they will just serve the various sandwiches. The evening and Sunday dinner meals will remain the same. Sunday night supper meal will be a continuation of the dinner meal until gone. We may have to change how we do some things, depending on the rules in place by the time the fair rolls around. By working together, we will accomplish our goal of feeding the fair goers a good home cooked meal and raising money for our congregation and its projects.

We will also need those extra people who are so important doing behind the scenes jobs. We need people to come mornings to peel the potatoes for the potato salad, peel the potatoes for the supper meals on Friday and Thursday, doing the daily laundry, pulling the pork roasts so it can be made into the pulled pork sandwiches, making meat balls and lastly, we need to give the stand a good cleaning. It has been closed up for almost two years now, so it really needs a deep cleaning.

The calling for the shifts will begin in early June, so when you get the call, please say yes! We need everyone to help make this another successful year!

Here are a few dates to remember:

Fair Stand Cleaning: June 16, 3:00 p.m.

Make the Meat Balls: June 22, 9:00 a.m.

Pulling the Pork Roasts: July 5, 1:00 p.m.

After the Fair Cleaning: July 12, 6:00 p.m.

Tour of Alpine Europe

Pastor Phil and Darcey are hosting a tour of Alpine Europe, including Switzerland, Austria and Germany in September 2022.  The dates of this 11-day tour are September 19-29,2022.  The highlight of the trip will be attending world famous Passion Play in Bavaria, in the town of Oberammergau.   The villagers first performed the story of Jesus' life 387 years ago in 1634, because God had spared them from the Black Plague.  This village performs the Passion Play every ten years, and will again in 2022 from mid-May through October 2nd.  If you would like more information and a color brochure, please talk to Pastor Phil.
