Dr Mark de Rond

The Art and Science of High Performance TeamsMark de Rond is an associate professor of Strategy and Organization at the University of Cambridge Business School.

Dr de Rond’s principal interests are threefold: (1) strategic alliances (2) innovation in the context of virtual work and (3) causation, serendipity, and innovation in strategy.

Mark’s unique fieldwork and teaching approach have fostered an eclectic portfolio of executive education clients, including IBM, KPMG, PWC, Shell, Diageo, Rolls Royce, and many others. He received training in mediation and negotiation at Harvard Law School, and is part of the University mediation team. His research has featured widely in the press, including in TIME magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and on the BBC to name just a few.

His publications include several award-winning articles and two books on strategic alliances. “Strategic Alliances as Social Facts” was described as a “tour de force analysis of strategic alliances” and won a major international book award.

His new book, There is an I in Team, challenges conventional wisdom about teams in business by adapting lessons from the world of sports, along with new insights from the latest social and psychological research.

Professor Peter Williamson

Dragons At Your DoorProfessor Williamson has wide experience in research, consulting and executive education as well as serving as a non-executive director and chairman of both publically listed companies and new ventures in industries as diverse as whisky, textiles, hedge fund management and Chinese software. He is currently Academic Director of the Advanced Leadership Programme as well as Director of Studies in Management at Cambridge. He currently serves as a non-executive director of the global renewal energy firm Green Gas International B.V. and non-executive chairman of the technology-enabled training company Imparta Ltd.Professor Williamson was formerly with the Boston Consulting Group in London, and Merrill Lynch. He serves on the editorial boards of European Management Journal,Business Strategy Review, and Academy of Management Learning and Education. Peter has acted as consultant on business strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and international expansion to numerous companies, governments and international organisations throughout the Asia-Pacific region as well as in Europe and North America. He has experience in China since 1983, assisting numerous multinationals and joint ventures, and more recently, Chinese companies venturing abroad.

Professor Jose Santos

Realising Superior PerformanceProfessor José F.P. dos (Joe) Santos started an academic career in engineering in the early seventies in his home town of Porto, but soon after moved into the managerial world. Twenty years later, he retired from an intense and successful executive career featuring a 10 year term as MD of an Italian multinational group.

Since 1995, Joe moved from Italy to devote himself again to scholarly work, a dream from his youth. Joe’s research and teaching focus on the management of the multinational enterprise, particularly on the management of global integration and global innovation. Joe is Affiliated Professor of Practice in Global Management at INSEAD, France; Visiting Scholar at MIT Sloan, USA; and “Professor Catedratico Convidado” at UCP, Portugal. He regularly presents in conferences around the world and works with top management teams of multinational corporations from Europe, Americas, and Japan. The book From Global to Metanational: How Companies Win in the Knowledge Economy, co-authored with colleagues Yves Doz and Peter Williamson, was published by Harvard Business School Press.

Dr Ceri Evans

Sustained High PerformanceHolder of a distinguished academic track record, Ceri is a widely acclaimed leading forensic psychiatrist and sports psychologist. Following his graduation with distinction in Medicine from the University of Otago in New Zealand, Ceri was awarded a Rhodes scholarship to study at Oxford University, where he gained a first-class honours degree in Experimental Psychology. He subsequently gained membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and was awarded the Gaskell Gold Medal, one of the foremost academic distinctions in clinical psychiatry. He has also completed a Masters degree in Psychiatric Research and Methods.Ceri’s remarkable academic record is combined with an outstanding sporting career. He played as a professional footballer in the English First Division (then the top flight) and is a former captain of the New Zealand football team. He has integrated his areas of expertise in order to evolve a highly developed psychological insight into human performance in competitive situations.

Dr Darren Burgess

The Mindset of an Elite AthleteDarren has had a long and distinguished career in the physical and mental conditioning of professional elite athletes. A qualified Sports Scientist and Doctor of Philosophy, Darren is highly regarded and highly sought after worldwide, with a superior reputation for the preparation of elite athletes to perform at their best. His career has been a spectacular one. After initial stints with professional Australian based sporting teams including the Port Adelaide Football Club, Darren was recruited by Football Federation Australia in 2007 to lead the conditioning program for the Soceroos ahead of the historic World Cup Finals. His reputation saw him head hunted by famous UK Premier league Club Liverpool in 2010 as Head of Fitness & Conditioning. Darren’s, longing for the Australian lifestyle and passion for the Port Adelaide Football Club, saw him return to the Club as High Performance Manager in November 2012. Whilst early days, the transformation of the conditioning of the playing list has been remarkable, so too Darren’s ability to educate and inspire athletes on what it takes to be the best.

Mr David KochChannel Seven Presenter, acclaimed Financial Commentator, Chairman PAFCRenowned host of highly acclaimed Channel Seven “Sunrise” Program and award winning financial commentator, Koch started as a cadet on the business pages of The Australian newspaper before joining BRW soon after its launch in the early 1980s. He was one of the founders of consumer finance journalism in Australia and created Personal Investment magazine. In 1988 he launched trade publishing group Australian Financial Press in a joint venture with Fairfax. AFP went on to create Business magazine, New Accountant and Money Management newspaper.Currently he provides business and financial commentary for several publications, and is director of Pinstripe Media Pty Ltd. Koch has written several practical books on family and business financial management. In a survey conducted by Money Management newspaper, his peers recognised him as one of the 10 most influential people of all time in the financial services industry.Through his involvement in ShareLife, Koch influenced the federal government to establish a national authority to oversee Australia’s organ transplant system. The new national authority aims to bring Australian transplant rates up to world’s best practice. Koch chairs the advisory board.Having previously held the position of the Club’s No 1 ticket holder, Koch was announced as the Chairman of the Port Adelaide Football Club in October 2012 and in season 2013 has overseen the Club reaching a record 40,000 Members.
