• Choose a ‘buddy’ to help you

• Work on it throughout the day

Principle 1:The Authentic One

Slide 14 of 45

Ver

sion

20

07-1

• Think back to your role models

• Are the behaviours they demonstrate, real or fake?

• Are ‘fakers’ easy to spot?

• What are the benefits of ‘being real/ being authentic’?

• What are the benefits and pitfalls of saying ‘’yes’ and/or ‘no’ too often?

The Authentic One – Exercise

Slide 15 of 45

Key Points – The Authentic One

• Be a little self-reflective

• What one thing can you do to be more of the real you?

• Breathe…

• Bringing a part of you to work that you haven’t previously, WILL encourage people to want to be around you

• Ask for feedback – in fact, welcome it

• Listen 100% to what the other person is saying

• Learn how to say no, yet still sound positive

Principle 2:

EveryOne is a Role Model

Slide 18 of 45

Ver

sion

20

07-1

• Refer back to your role models/icons

• What is it about them that makes them stand out for you?

• Write down their qualities as specifically as you can (what is it they SAY and/or DO?/How do they behave?)

EveryOne is a Role Model – Exercise

Slide 19 of 45

Ver

20

07-1

• In order to improve our communication skills, we must first become aware of how we do communicate

• Watch your language, if you don’t, others will

• Ask yourself what you can do to be a better role model?

• When you’re hanging around the water-cooler or having a chat with a co-worker, make sure you leave them with something positive to think about

• Naturally, you’d like people to speak well of you, we all would. By adopting the attitude and behaviours of a good role model, people will always speak well of you

• When we say one thing and do another, we lose credibility

MAKING A GOOD IMPRESSION

• ..in person

• ..in writing

• ..using the telephone

Slide 23 of 45

• Knowing how to build rapport is essential

• Being engaging is about being people-friendly

• Be aware of how you would like to come across

• Build your personal brand

• People think that by using emotion to get their point across, their point is made stronger. The reverse is true

One Positive Way

Slide 26 of 45

Ver

• Is the glass half-full or half-empty? Actually, it’s both!

• Our mind is the only thing we have complete control over

• A positive thought, will bring about a positive experience, not only on the inside, but on the outside too

• When we learn how to use techniques that prevent us from feeling negative, we feel positive

• Train your brain to do as it’s told

• Plant a seed of positive thinking in your business and in your life

Change One Thing - Exercise

Slide 30 of 45

Ver

sion

20

07-1

• Change is challenging for all of us

• Do something different, something really small

• The best way to learn and grow is to encourage change within ourselves

• As much as we might like to, we can’t change others

• Repetitive, habitual behaviors that don’t achieve the outcome we require or want, need a different attitude & strategy. Think differently!

• When we make a conscious effort to change, our world looks bigger and better

Principle 6:

Doing One Right Thing

Slide 36 of 45

Doing One Right Thing – Exercise

• What does’ Doing One Right Thing’ mean to you?

• Times in your past when ‘Doing One Right Thing’ would have helped?

Slide 37 of 45

Ver

sion

20

07-1

• Honesty is the best policy

• One of the most challenging relationships in our lives is the relationship we have with ourselves

• When we do the right thing instead of the wrong thing, we are replicating the behaviour of those people we so admire

• It’s much easier on our brain to do the right thing

• Sometimes doing the right thing entails making a sacrifice

• Ask yourself what part of ‘doing the right thing’ doesn’t work for you

Slide 40 of 45

Exercise – One for all and all for One

• Time to let your imagination do the work

• It’s NOT a test

• It’s about ‘letting go’

• Fifteen minutes to create

• Five minutes to feedback your creation to your colleagues

• Have fun!

Slide 41 of 45

Key Points – One for All and All for One

• We are not alone

• Leaders, are intensely curious, hungry to learn and give everyone their ear

• Make sure there’s a continual dialogue going on between you and your co-workers

• Don’t be afraid to be open and honest

• Even those business icons love it when us mere mortals ask them questions

• Very successful people and highly profitable businesses thrive because they collaborate

• What we desire out of business-life and life-life is available to us. We just have to be aware of what it is we really, really want
