The sai l ing school I imagined first seeks to be compact, to economize on materials, but also in order to minimize i ts impact on the si te along the lake. In addit ion, the project is part of an ecological approach (f low management, orientat ion, water harvesting, solar panels, materials) . The volume of the building is the result of a module’s search, and its application to form the various functions of the school . The module varies in term of size but not of shape. A centra l g lassed area , w i th a doub le he igh t is used to connect the dif ferent parts of the s c h o o l . The in i t ia l project intent ions were to place the sports equip-ments and techniques on the ground f loor (changing rooms, sheds, refectory and technical rooms) . Indeed, these elements require direct access to the outs ide and th is opt imizes routes and dai ly c leaning. A lso, I wanted the “earth” room to occupy a prominent p lace with in the school , on the f i rst f loor, wi th a lakeview terace. Fina l ly , a housing part on the top level , independent , but a lso enjoying a panoramic view over the lake.
The wood which is the main mater ia l of the project , provides thermal comfort and meets the requirements in terms of spans and heights . Specif ica l ly , I chose a system in Kerto (prefabr icated panels) for the ent i re bui ld ing frame and a wood / concrete (nai led laminated) for f loors . The Kerto’s made structure is sel f-support ing, and therefore is sel fsuff ic ient as regards the support for the upper f loors .

This project comes to requal i fy a waste land in the heart of L isbon, in the distr ict of Campol ide. I t is intended to combine var ious funct ions : housing, off ices, cu l tura l center, . . . The s i te is located on s loping ground, wi th a height
di f ferent ia l of about 12 meters from one end of the parcel the other. As a consequence , I worked on a sys tem of t rays , w i th a cha in of green spaces through wh ich the bu i ld ings weave. In the southern par t of the parce l , an
area bordered by a major cu l tura l center can host var i -ous events such as exhib i t ions, concerts , markets , . . .
The northern part of the project has subsequent ly been intens i f ied ( typology of bui ld ings, traff ic , access, re lat ionship
to urban space, b locks’s treatment) .

The part studied in detai l inc ludes two col lect ive housing blocks, a block of off ices, and a block of student housing (which faces the Facul ty of Sciences and Geography which exists in the southern part of the project ) . Each bui ld ing contains shops, cafes, and restaurants on the ground f loor.

At the hear t of the project , I imag ined two large shaded areas over looking the green spaces ( thanks to the height differential) , with a wood covering f loor, to serve as a terrace for the cafés and restaurants , recal l ing the miradouros which are very popular in L isbon.

Th is work focuses on the quest ion of breakthrough and light : where does l igh t come from ? How does i t progress in the project ? How does i t gu ide the v is i tor ’s course , arous ing h is cur ios i ty ?
Simi lar ly, these first projects made it possible to understand the transition and the hierarchy between the different spaces of the same place.
