Coral Gables Swimming VillageThis project is a proposal for a year-round swimming and diving facility located next to the University of Miami. It will offer a mix of various ammenities including an olympic sized competitive swimming pool, diving pool, an indoor community pool, a large relax-ation pool, a basketball gym, racquetball courts, a fitness center, and spaces for cycling, yoga, and pilates. The design was inspired by an abstraction of water, taking the form of a folding, oragami-like surface. These surfaces are scattered around the site like a village, forming the key building spaces which contrast the outdoor spaces. The ground floor of the building is half a story below grade and the project features lush tropical landscape, helping to tie it down to the site.

Embarcadero 10This project aims to design a modern coffee roastery inspired by figure-ground plans, consisting of separate buildings united into one site. The street axes are used as impor-tant divisions between the buildings in order to emphasize the relationship between the street and the buildings on site. As one approaches the site from either of the main streets, they can see through directly to the water, engaging the street life with the wa-terfront. The project also addresses the industrious nature of the coffee roasting indus-try with its use of steel, concrete, and glass as primary materials, with touches of wood to add warmth to the design.

Parisian Housing ProjectThe site for this project is located in the 19th district of Paris, France. Today, the district is still going through great transformation. The area has an industrial history due to its easy accesibility by water and rail. Subsequently, it became a depot for the handling and storage of materials and an important area of markets and shops. This proposal aims to represent the industrial history of the site and reflect on the original market culture of the area. This is achieved with the production of different crops in a greenhouse at the heart of the site, which supplies the building’s residents with fresh and local food. The area is also enlivened with a bustling market.

Miami Fish MarketThis fish market project is located on the Miami River. Its design creates a space where fish can be delivered, sold, and eaten on site. The structure, which is inspired by water and sea life, takes on the shape of multiple parabolas. This design, inspired by a lobster shell, creates the main shelter for the open-air building. The use of titanium as a material is inspired by fish scales and helps relate the build-ing to the surrounding water. The elongated shape of the market helps conform the building to its site, which is particularly limiting being long and thin.

Ryoanji DocumentationThis project was done as part of a study abroad program in Kyoto, Japan. The program focused on an on-site study of Japanese architecture and the components of the tradi-tional Japanese city. My selected topic of study was the Japanese rock garden. Through photographs, sketching exercises, and multiple site visits, I fully documented Ryoanji, a famous Zen Garden. This documentation ultimately led to a composition drawing done on AutoCad. My focus was to document the overall site plan of the garden, going into thorough detail of all the materials and acurate proportions.

The Modern SukkahThis project’s vision was to design a modern Sukkah that embraces the holiday of Suk-kot, one that celebrates nature and the temporary shelters of the Jewish people. As such, the concept takes its inspiration from the trunk of a tree. The overall shape of the Sukkah mimics a tree trunk, with a framing system that starts wide and goes narrow towards the top. The main framing system, as well as the lattice covering, is made of wood, symbolizing the Sukkah’s relationship with trees and nature. Once inside, one’s attention will be focused to the oculus above, which will be surrounded by palm fonds. It will be as if one left the outside world to enjoy a peaceful holiday with nature.

Tower Shell Inspired ColumnThe goal of this project was to design and digitally fabricate a column inspired by nature. The form I chose to focus on was the tower shell. This column was first modeled using Rhino, where a spiral edge was repeatedly extruded using a programming code written on Grasshopper. After this, the surface was used as an input for a voronoi code, also written on Grasshopper. This program placed division points, connected them with curves, and ultimately created cylindrical shapes around the curves, forming the final voronoi shape. After the 3D column was finished on Rhino, it was digitally fabricated using a MakerBot Replicator 2.

Hyperbolic ParabaloidThis project focuses on the study of structure through the design of a simple pavilion. The design of the structure is based on a hyperbolic parabaloid, forming the main roof of the pavilion. Three shipping containers are stacked below the parabaloid roof, form-ing the main interior spaces of the building. The model was first made on the computer using SketchUp, before it was physically built by hand. The roof is made of thin dowels, placed in a parabolic pattern giving the envision that the roof is curved.

Papaya Fruit StudyThis project focuses on the study of color and form through the use of fruit. I chose to focus my study on the papaya. Initially, I sketched the fruit, focusing on its outline, elevation, and section details. After this, I did a 3D color study of the fruit, highlighting the contrasting nature of the fruit’s colors. The project terminated with a pattern design done on Adobe Illustrator. Using the papaya’s colors and shape, I created a line pattern using multiple line-weights that appears to fade in and out.

Kyoto Traveler’s SketchThis sketchbook was done as part of a traveler’s sketching course and focuses on the architectural details of Japanese buildings and gardens. Studied places include Kyoto, Nara, Tokyo, and Ise. The drawings include studies of the elevations, plans, and sec-tions of Japanese temples, as well as the figure ground details of Japanese gardens and city blocks. Various building types including the pagoda and shrine were studied. Other details include landscape and zen rock gardens.
