01| Mercedes-benz accelo 2020 struktur conceptMASTER’s DEGREE PROJECT | MERCEDES-BENZ TRUCKS BRAZIL | 2013-2014
2020 concept of the light urban truck Accelo, a vision of a shape-shifting
concept of truck, inspired in the philosophy of architecture and innovation
of technology. Master’s Degree project executed in partnership between IED
São Paulo and Mercedes-Benz Trucks Brazil, awarded with second place.

1. DESIGN SPIRIT
The spirit of the design for
this project is centered in
three of Mercedes-Benz
brand values.FASCInATInG RESPECTFULL LEADInG
2. BRIEFING & EVOLUTIONThe challenge given by Mercedes-Benz was to dream how would
be the Accelo for brazilian streets in 2020. Accelo is the current
light urban truck for the brazilian portfolio, it is designed to be
polivalent yet easy to drive.
Mercedes-Benz is about tradition and a strong sense of
inheritance . The design studies began on understanding how
would Accelo’s design evolve from 2013 to 2020, taking current
design lines as a starting point, and proposing the versions in
the years between.

EVOLUTION
TECHNICAL vs. EMOTIONAL
Accelo mixes the concept of an utilitary vehicle with the ease of drive of a car. Following this sense of
practicality, Struktur was designed in the sum of technical and emotional, following design character,
but shaped on the emotion and attitude of vehicles of the brand, in order to create emotional and
symbolic link between brand, driver, environment and truck.

SHAPE SHIFTInG STRUCTURE
Modern architecture inspired, the vehicle’s
structure is brought outwards and becomes
the icon of the truck, also enabling a
different cabin configuration and driving
experience.

CUTTInG EDGE TECHNOLOGY
Design does not rely only on shape but on how it works as well. The design of the wheel was based on hydrogen
fuel cell technology F-Cell, on a one engine-per-wheel package, to meet the needs of greener transportation,
and transmitting the sense of strenght and technology. It is not the responsibility of the designer to design the
engine, but some imagination and a creative approach on engineering and technology is allowed when the goal
is to propose the future.
02| struktur INTERIOR (Work in progress)ghost PROJECT | MERCEDES-BENZ TRUCKS BRAZIL | 2014
This is a extension of the previous project, aiming at the exercise of a
different set of capabilities required for the automotive design: the interior
development. The project of the interior aims at claryfying gaps left by the
shape, such as the driveability, cabin seat layout and instrument operation.
04| Clay modelling practiceacademic PROJECT | ied sao paulo | 2013
Clay modelling exercise based on the sketch of an Audi Quattro concept
featured on the book “Secrets of Automotive Design” by professor
Fernando Morita. The activity consisted on translating the sketch onto a
rough proportion clay sculpture.
