Located on the Pest side of the capital and stretching 17km
across the northern edge of Budapest, Szilas creek connects
three districts from Naplás lake to the river Danube. Despite
the residential areas along this route the creek joins together
surprisingly neglected green surfaces. Revitalisation of these
areas has the potential to form a coherent green network, an
ecological corridor and a linear recreational track of regional
importance.
I proposed a multilevel green surface development strategy
which outlines the regeneration in three stages. Following
the strategy I prepared a large scale open space design plan
to provide a concept for the whole area. 7 sections with
varying character have been outlined along the Szilas creek
green network that give an interesting diversity to the 17km
long recreational track. I highlighted 6 objects and their
surroundings from the large scale concept. They helped to
create an overall concept, a coherent narrative, a sequence
of recreational functions along the creek and they also helped
to link together the fragmented green network through the
investigated design tool of the water course. The wetland
ponds, the skywalk, the amphitheatre, the climbing tower,
the slope stabilization and the viewpoint became part of the
Szilas creek green network’s identity.

In the heart of Moscow our design brought a new refreshing
green island to the residential courtyard. My main task
was to investiagate the details of the luxurious residential
development and to find a good balance between the
hardscape of the courtyard garden and the architecture and
interior design of the buildings.

Gillespies Project SREDA Proposal
The concept for Project SREDA Linear Park and Phase 1 Residential Development is based on the captivating forms, sense of energy and timeless elegance of the human body... a park that provides opportunities for play and relaxation and encourages interaction, enjoyment and social activity...

Connecting the new residential buildings our masterplan provides a
sequence of green parks, courtyards and boulevards to the residents
of the new district of Moscow. Inspired by the russian culture we
proposed a new ‘brand’, a dinamic, textured layout that also creates a
vibrant urban environment and a chain of green habitats.

The new international visitor centre on the site of Shakespeare’s
former house is clearly the place of theatrical effects. The
rounded stage with a sunken fireplace, the well, the remains
of the old house, the golden objects and the dramatic and rich
planting bed are all representing the world of Shakespeare.

The site’s former use as a sugar factory provided an inspiring cultural reference
that we used in an abstract form to develop a strong landscape concept. We
designed a series of abstract forms and moods associated with 3 stages of the
sugar process. By defining the 3 courts of Growth, Crystalize and Refine we added
subtle variation in the landscape character. In addition the adjacent parkland and
water feature was brought into the central boulevard in a series of waving land
forms inspired by a sense of nature movement and a long water channel to create
a coherent green parkland.

The concept of the Retail, Dining and Entertainment Quarter of the Everland
Theme Park was based on the idea of arriving to an Enchanted Forest. The magical
green surrounding of the arrival circus make the visitors feel immediately part of

Urban Heat Island (UHI) Project 01.2014- 06.2014
Action Plan for Climate-Conscious Development of the Budapest Pilot
Area, Hungary
Hungarian Urban Knowledge Centre - Richárd Ongjerth; Hungarian
Meteorological Service - Dr. Györgyi Baranka; climate modelling - Flóra
Szkordilisz; Gyöngyvér Szabó50+ ha
Within the framework of the Central European Urban Heat Island Project our team researched different methods
and factors of the climate-conscious urban planning. We proposed and tested (by a climate modell) 7 effective
tools that improved significantly the climatic conditions of the large pilot area in the centre of Budapest. Green
roofs, green walls, permeable pavement, single and double alleys, planters and new parks were planned to
reduce the negative effects of the urban heat island of the Hungarian capital.
a new contemporary floating walkway was introduced to the historical garden structure34
The main goal of our masterplan was to find a new link between the old,
landscape style castle garden and the open public space with waterfront.
We proposed a continuous contemporary floating walkway which
connects both sites.

castle districtmosaics
The old ‘castle district’ of Budapest was a lively, bohemian area in the
early years of the 20th century. This area seemed like the cradle of new
trends, artists, philisophers, poets etc. But some years ago the area lost
its safety, caracter and the ‘refreshing’ function among the valuable
old facades. The new design of the public spaces was built up from
the bohemian atmosphere, to create a contemporary, multifunctional,
creative and green public realm.

Our vision for the Roman Danube Bank was created for the people -
residents, tourists, developers etc. - who would like to see a diverse,
multifunctional, green and livable riverside in 2100. The development
is devided into different stages to reach a continuous progression
on the site and to find a self-supporting financial balance. By 2100 the
Roman Danube Bank will be a place for everybody who would like to
find cultural, recreational, sport functions and residential, business area
in extremely green surroundings.

We proposed to build a symbolic entrance gate for the Hungarian Pavilion on the 14th
Venice Biennále. We imagined to join together the anchient architecture and building with
the contemporary thinking in a ‘negative footprint’ (form) of a primitive hen house. This
‘footprint’ would be realized by community building: while the exhibition is open each
visitor could attach a small piece of wood to the large construction. The concept of a
present community building would bring back the forgotten old times’ practice.

A megvalósítás a Kárpát-medencei modellre épül.

Nowadays the Anspachlaan is a busy long boulevard in the center of Brussels. You can’t find any
refreshing green surface, nor a cozy bench, nor a comfortable sidewalk along the busy road. The
‘Wrinkle’ concept’s aim is to form this long road into a coherent green pedestran zone with a wide
range of public functions. With the design approach the city can win 30% more public space and park
area! 52

Important adventages of the wavy parkstrip are the diverse functions which
you can find on or under the surface of the long strip. The parkstrip activates
an interesting mix of lively programs for all ages like bars, tribune, skatepark,
minigolf, open air dancing, playground, public fitness site, bicycle storage etc.
55
The ‘sustainable parkstrip’ also raises the public awareness to achieve
sustainability with an urban farm, community gardens, algae farm, orchard,
water retention, fish farm, solar panels, food market, grazing management etc.

My design aim was to create a special garden with several terasses which
are stepping down from the hillside to the river Danube. This composition
let the family look every day into the beautiful view of the riverside. The
terasses are planted with different grasses and prennials to create a natural
riverside image. Beside the natural plantation I proposed to use rough
materials like concrete and corten elements.
