One of our top selling graphic novels this week was Username: Evie by Joe Sugg (ISBN 9780762460106 $17.95) The first book by YouTube star Joe Sugg tells the story of Evie, a socially-isolated teenage girl who struggles to fit in at high school. Always looking for a way to escape, she spends her nights supporting her terminally-ill father, who is tirelessly working on a computer program. When her father passes away, Evie is forced to live with her aunt, uncle, and cousin—Mallory—who is the most popular girl in school and the bane of Evie's existence. One night, as she's going through her father's computer, Evie stumbles on a strange file that sucks her into a virtual world. As Evie explores this strange, new land, she learns it was the project her father was working so tirelessly on: a virtual Eden where Evie can get away and be herself. However, Evie is not alone; Mallory also discovers the world and her presence causes the idyll to descend into chaos. Now Evie must save the virtual world or lose her last connection to her father.

Slaughterhouse 90210 by Maris Kreizman (ISBN 9781250061102

$19.99) Kurt Vonnegut, meet Brenda Walsh. A wickedly clever and surprisingly profound pop culture mash-up, based on the blog with more than 150,000 loyal fans. Praised by Salon as "hilarious" and "artful", O Magazine as "A lovely little corner of the Internet," and called, "Instant profoundness" by Buzzfeed, Slaughterhouse 90210 pairs

literature's greatest lines with pop culture's best moments. In 2009, Maris Kreizman wanted to combine her fierce love for pop culture with a lifelong passion for reading, and so the blog Slaughterhouse 90210 was born. By matching poignant passages from literature with popular moments from television, film, and real life, Maris' work instantly caught the attention (and adoration) of thousands. And it's easy to see why. Slaughterhouse 90210 is subversively brilliant, finding the depth in the shallows of reality television, and the levity in Lahiri. We see Taylor Swift paired with, "Above all, she is the girl who 'feels things'. The girl ever wounded, ever young," by Joan Didion. Tony Soprano,

waist-deep in a pool surrounded by ducks is accompanied by a line from Middlemarch about, "The patches of hardness and tenderness [that] lie side by side in men's dispositions." These two pieces of art complement and deepen one another in surprising, profound, and tender ways. Slaughterhouse 90210 is a book for anyone with a Netflix account and a library card. With over 150 color photographs from some of popular culture's most iconic moments, Kreizman shows why comparing Walter White to Faust makes sense in our celebrity obsessed, TV crazed society.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms by George R. R. Martin,

Illustrated by Gary Gianni (ISBN 9780345533487 $30.00)

Never-before-collected stories from George R. R. Martin set in the bestselling Game of Thrones world, 90 years before Game of Thrones begins! Complete with 160 black-and-white illustrations. Taking place nearly a century before the events of A Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms compiles the first three official prequel novellas to George R. R. Martin’s ongoing masterwork, A Song of Ice and Fire. These never-before-collected adventures recount an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living consciousness. Before Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne, there was Dunk and Egg. A young, naïve but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals—in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg—whose true name (hidden from

all he and Dunk encounter) is Aegon Targaryen. Though more improbable heroes may not be found in all of Westeros, great destinies lay ahead for these two . . . as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits.

“Intro to Alien Invasion smuggles a sly, affectionate portrait of today’s train wreck college campus

culture inside a fast-paced alien invasion saga. I couldn’t stop reading it!" Patton Oswalt, "New York Times" bestselling author of "Silver Screen Fiend"

IN STOCK - Intro to Alien Invasion (ISBN 9781476763408

$17.99) In this wildly entertaining collaboration, novelists Owen King and Mark Jude Poirier team up with illustrator Nancy Ahn to present a wickedly funny graphic novel about an alien invasion on a college campus. Stacey, a brilliant, overachieving astrobiology major at Fenton College, had planned on

just another lonely Spring Break on campus. But when a hurricane batters the small college town, downing power lines and knocking out cell phone reception, Stacey and her friends are stranded with no way to communicate with the outside world at the worst possible moment: in the midst of an alien invasion. As space insects begin to burrow into students and staff, transforming them into slobbering, babbling monsters, a conglomeration of misfits must band together to prevent the infestation from spreading. Meanwhile, Stacey’s long-stifled romantic feelings for her friend Charlotte begin to surface, while the professor she had admired and respected becomes the students’ worst enemy.

Illustrated with enormous wit and dynamism—mixing classic tropes from science fiction, indie comics, B-movies, and campus culture—this graphic novel is something different, a large-scale action/adventure story as seen from the point-of-view of a contemporary, realistic heroine. The result is a funny and singular work unlike anything else you’ve ever read. “Fun, fresh, and witty, Intro to Alien Invasion is somehow both a hilarious send-up and a heartfelt, unfettered celebration of the genre." Jonathan Tropper, "New York Times" bestselling author of THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU

Amazing, Fantastic, Incredible: A Marvelous Memoir (ISBN 9781501107726 $30.00)

In this gorgeously illustrated, full-color graphic memoir, Stan Lee—comic book legend and co-creator of Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Avengers, the Incredible Hulk, and a

legion of other Marvel superheroes—shares his iconic legacy and the story of how modern comics came to be. Stan Lee is a man who needs no introduction. The most legendary name in the history of comic books, he has been the leading creative force behind Marvel Comics, and has brought to life—and into the mainstream—some of the world’s best-known heroes and most infamous villains throughout his career. His stories—filled with superheroes struggling with personal hang-ups and bad guys who possessed previously unseen psychological complexity—added wit and subtlety to a field previously locked into flat portrayals of good vs. evil. Lee put the human in superhuman and in doing so, created a new mythology for the twentieth century. In this beautifully illustrated graphic memoir—illustrated by celebrated artist Colleen Doran—Lee tells the story of his life with the same inimitable wit, energy, and offbeat spirit that he brought to the world of comics. Moving from

his impoverished childhood in Manhattan to his early days writing comics, through his military training films during World War II and the rise of the Marvel empire in the 1960s to the current resurgence in movies, Amazing Fantastic Incredible documents the life of a man and the legacy of an industry and career. This funny, moving, and incredibly honest memoir is a must-have for collectors and fans of comic books and graphic novels of every age.
