AIRTON CLASS

This week we have enjoyed learning about symmetry. We have investigated lines of symmetry in nature and in

2D shapes. Our literacy this week has focused around seaside poetry. We worked in groups or as individuals

to choose a sea creature. We then thought of as many adjectives, similes and alliterative phrases for each

sea creature before writing out our poems. These are displayed in our literacy corner. In our science lesson,

we looked at different ways of sorting materials. In discussions, we were able to think of how different ma-

terials are used in everyday life. Our P.E lessons this half term are linked to multi-skills and learning how to

play different games. We are still enjoying our outdoor, gross-motor skills, weekly P.E session.

A big thank you for the donation of some CD/DVDs from a parent. We plan to decorate them in due course,

and display them in our outdoor area. Any more donations would be very gratefully received.

***EYFS parents - Please check your child's bag for homework / or their diary...I need your help with

a technology questionnaire please, (ASAP) and also information about healthy living. Many Thanks with

your co-operation and help with this***

Have a great weekend.

Pupil of the Week: Jack, for showing compassion towards others and being a really nice friend.

Maths Maestro: Henry, for a fantastic grasp of symmetry.

CRACOE CLASS

Another 4 day week this week but it's been a busy one! In Literacy we started by looking at the front cover

of a book called Amazing Grace and we had to make predictions as to what the story might be about. We then

read the story and found our how close our guesses were. We're going to continue to use Amazing Grace in

our Literacy next week too. In Numeracy we have been using number lines and empty number lines to work out

the answers to addition and subtraction sums. Empty number lines are tricky to get our heads around but

everyone worked really hard. In Science we have thought about parts of a plant and the different jobs they

do. In our Topic work we found out a little more about the mystery person; we now know he was an explorer

who used a ship to travel. We're looking forward to finding out more as the weeks go on. We had great fun

with Mrs Whitley in art this week - we used sponges to create pictures, patterns and textures.

Pupil of the Week: Theo, for great determination during reading comprehension tasks.

Maths Maestro: Summer, for developing a good grasp of using an empty number line.

FARNHILL CLASS

This week in Farnhill class the pupils have been reading our new class text. We have been describing one of

the main characters called Pod from ‘The Borrowers’ by Mary Norton. We discussed how he was an expert

climber who is well-equipped for his adventure scaling the bookcase in pursuit of chocolate (on the top self)

using four toilet plungers acting as pick axes to help him to the top. We explored Pod appearance, emotions

and to developed the setting when writing we included his senses, explaining what he could see, smell, hear

and touch from high above the furniture. In mathematics, Farnhill have been presenting and interpreting data

in more complex tables. In science, as part of our new light topic, we have been learning about reflective sur-

faces and materials. The children using their understanding of reflective materials, we asked to design a new

book bag considering aluminous colours, lights, glow in the dark or retro reflective signs to show the speed

limit. Before designing, the children we asked to consider and later justify how their bag would help children

to keep safe when walking to and from school near roads. In French this week, we have been learning the

names and pronunciation of pets as part of our friends and family topic.

Pupil of the Week: Jasmine, for her fantastic writing about Pod and his adventure.

Maths Maestro: Eva, for carefully interpreting and presenting data.

LINTON CLASS

It has been a busy week after the Bank Holiday, in maths we have started to work on telling and recording the

time. We have revised time facts like seconds in a minute and minutes in an hour. The subject of leap years is

always interesting and days in a month are always a challenge. It gave us a chance to recap on our science

study of the Sun and Earth. Some children are still finding telling the time from an analogue clock difficult,

especially “to the hour” any help at home would be much appreciated.

In science we looked at food groups and a food pyramid, we discussed proportions of different groups that

made a healthy diet. We then looked at food in tins, jars and packets, we searched for ingredients and how

many contained added sugar and salt. We were amazed at the results and how many hidden sugars or sweeten-

ers there are in food.

In English we discussed our homework about Kensuke’s Kingdom, and then looked at how the characters com-

municated without speaking, through their actions. We categorised events as being positive or negative and

thought of questions we would like to ask Kensuke, a good opportunity for hot seating!

We have all created an illustration for the book using materials of our choice, they are all different but very

effective.

Pupil of the Week: Charlotte, for being very enthusiastic about poetry.

Maths Maestro: Emily, for good skills telling the time.

GRASSINGTON CLASS

Even though we have had a shorter week in school, we have still managed to revise lots of topics in English

(grammar, spelling and punctuation) and maths. We have completed some mock papers and reassured ourselves

that we really can do these tests!

Unfortunately, we haven't had a lot of time to look at other subjects this week but after next week is over we

will start to enjoy the Summer term topics.

Everyone needs a good night's sleep on Sunday and no worrying...don't forget, we are providing breakfast from

8:30 if you want to 'chill out' before the day starts.

Maths Maestro: Levi, for his amazing maths paper scores

Pupil of the Week: Jacob, for always showing a positive attitude to his work
