Muriel is very frail and would value our prayers. Frances has moved Among this week s movers and shakers (as the saying goes) was Frances Rendle who left her Fort Austin Avenue house to take up residence at Flat 58, Wesley Court, Millbay Road, PL1 3LB. Frances says she will not have internet access or landline telephone available until later in the week at the earliest and in the meantime she can be contacted on 07773 114 253. We wish Frances every happiness in her new home and it s pleasing to know that she intends to maintain close links with St Edward s Chris returns Today we see the welcome return from summer holidays of Rev Chris, who, with his family, has been enjoying Cornwall s liquid sunshine under canvas. If truth be told, Chris welcomed the opportunities to interrupt, albeit very briefly, the break away to conduct a couple of weddings here. Anything to get away from a muddy campsite! We can now be guaranteed a spell of better weather at the start of the new school year. Please remember in your prayers all those pupils and students who will be commencing their studies in unfamiliar surroundings. African heat Whilst here in the West Country the wet August has been endured, one of our members, Pam Cooper, has been making the most of the South African sunshine whilst on Safari. All the big five and many more animals were encoun- tered during a holiday that met all expectations with never a mosquito in sight! In Pams case it is definitely sun tan and not rust. Mildred progressing It is understood that choir member Mildred Bickle, who has been convalescing for some time has now been given the go ahead to resume driving. Muriel in hospital Our senior regular worshipper, Muriel Marshall, is presently in hospital where she is being assessed to determine just what is the most suitable form of care for her – at home or in a more protected environment. Muriel is very frail and would value our prayers.

Frances has moved Among this week’s movers and shakers (as the saying goes) was Frances Rendle who left her Fort Austin Avenue house to take up residence at Flat 58, Wesley Court, Millbay Road, PL1 3LB. Frances says she will not have internet access or landline telephone available until later in the week at the earliest and in the meantime she can be contacted on 07773 114 253. We wish Frances every happiness in her new home and it’s pleasing to know that she intends to maintain close links with St Edward’s

Chris returns Today we see the welcome return from summer holidays of Rev Chris, who, with his family, has been ‘enjoying’ Cornwall’s liquid sunshine under canvas.

All the ‘big five’ and many more animals were encoun-tered during a holiday that met all expectations with never a mosquito in sight! In Pam’s case it is definitely sun tan and not rust.

Mildred progressing It is understood that choir member Mildred Bickle, who has been convalescing for some time has now been given the go ahead to resume driving. Hopefully it will not be too long before she is fit enough to join us again.

Sally’s thank you Someone who has appreciated our thoughts and prayers recently is Sally Webb who has asked for this opportunity to say “thank you”.

Only Joking! The following joke might be considered a little irreverent but it was one of the most popular at the Edinburgh Festival’s Fringe this year: The feeding of the five thousand with five loaves and two fish was not a miracle – it was tapas. A man walks into a barber’s shop and asks how many people are waiting to be served. “I’ve four cuts and two shaves booked for this morning,” replies the barber. The man leaves but returns the next day to ask the same question. “Two haircuts and three shaves,” says the barber. This pattern continues for some days with the man asking how many customers are waiting and then departing when told. The barber becomes a bit suspicious, thinking that the man is considering opening up his own hairdressing business in the vicinity and wanting to know how much trade to expect. The barber arranges for one of his staff to follow the man when next he calls. When the assistant returns, the barber asks, “Well, where did he go? Who is he?” The assistant replies, “I don’t know who he is but he seems to be a friend of your wife. He just called round to your house.”
