Academic excellence above all. Marymount students develop an intellectual life—a talent for critical

thinking and a passion for learning that sustains them through college and well beyond. Rich in math,

science and the humanities, equally grounded in the timeless and the technological, our curriculum

prepares young women for admission to the most selective universities—and to stand out once they’re

there. Marymount students’ SAT and ACT scores exceed the national averages. Girls here take a minimum

of six courses each semester and choose from among 17 AP and 10 honors courses. More than 80

of our courses are certified by the University of California. Each student receives individualized college

counseling based on her particular skills, personality and goals, helping to ensure she is admitted

to a college that is just right for her.

Our communities, corporations and governments are crying outfor innovative, ethical leaders with a global vision and an unshakable commitment to the common good.At Marymount, we treat every girl as an emerging leader. We cultivate leadership and character throughinstruction designed specifically for girls. We augment the high expectations of our academic program withleadership-development initiatives like mentoring and a speaker series that brings accomplished womento our campus. We spark an awareness of the world outside Los Angeles through our curriculum andthrough a growing global network of over 19 schools. A time-tested pedagogy specifically for girls. “Girl Power” was probably not a phrase the Religiousof the Sacred Heart of Mary used when they founded Marymount Los Angeles in 1923. But it was at the heart of their mission nonetheless and remains at the center of Marymount’s mission today. Our instruction is designed expressly for girls and based on the most up-to-date understanding of how they learn, grow and engage with the world. During an exceptionally formative time in theirlives, our students connect with a peer group of strong, capable young women and are guided by accomplished teachers and mentors. They learn in a challenging, nurturing and supportive environment that prizes mutual success over competition. They explore what it means to be both powerful and female, and confront the complexities of being a woman in the 21st century. Studieshave shown that single-sex education improves tests scores, math and science learning, and achievementin college. Our focus on girls, sharpened over nearly nine decades, is one reason Marymount studentsare striking in their confidence, fearless in their learning and unabashedly themselves.
