west London A minimum of 30 hours of on the job training at work place per week including a day/ block release to study theory at the college.- Level 2 at Harrow & Uxbridge campus and - Level 3 at Uxbridge campus.
Heating Engineer / Specialised Craftsperson (Plumber or Heating Engineer) / Skilled Operative.
Level 2 plumbing and heating qualification is designed for anyone who wants to become a plumber or domestic heating engineer. It provides all the basic domestic heating and plumbing training you need to start work in the industry.
Level 3 plumbing and heating qualification is aimed at anyone who has already completed the Level 2 qualification, or who already has some relevant experience and knowledge. If you choose gas-related units at Level 3 you will achieve the Gas Safe licence to practise on successful completion of the course.
If you complete a Level 2 Apprenticeship, you may be able to progress onto Level 3.

Mandatory unit
- Understand and carry out site preparation, and pipework fabrication techniques for domestic plumbing and heating systems
- Understand and apply domestic cold water system installation and maintenance techniques
- Install and maintain domestic plumbing and heating systems
- Understand and apply domestic hot water systeminstallation and maintenance techniques
- Understand and apply domestic central heating system installation and maintenance techniques
- Understand and apply domestic rainwater systeminstallation and maintenance techniques
- Understand and apply domestic above grounddrainage system installation and maintenance techniques
- Install and maintain domestic plumbing and heating systems.

Plumbing Level 2 National Vocational Qualification
Common Modules for all Apprenticeships:
- Rights and responsibilities of workers (including equal opportunities legislation)- Organisation, disciplines and representative structures of the industries concerned- Impact on the sector of public law and policies.
Employment Rights and Responsibilities
- Maths - Level 2 equivalent- English - Level 2 equivalent- Information Communication Technology – Level 1 or 2.
Functional SkillsEmployment Rights and Responsibilities
Mandatory unit
- Current Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and regulations applicable to work in the gas industry
- Safe gas and electrical installation, commissioning, decommissioning and/or ongoing service and repair procedures of gas installations and appliances needed to establish the safe operation of the equipment and installation in accordance with industry standards
- Gas and electrical theories and procedures involved in the practical installation, commissioning, decommissioning and/or ongoing service and repair of gas installations, appliances and associated equipment
- Relevant electrical/mechanical principles and how they are applied in work processes and procedures
- Up to date energy efficiency advice and guidance to be given to the customer
- Product knowledge to be able to discuss and advise the customer
- Current regulatory compliance, current Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations and the current Electricity at Work Regulations
- Company rules, policies and procedures as defined by the employer.
