PLP PROJECT YEAR 2
Ken Hakstol and Patrick Bohnet
“How can we design problem/passion-based professional learning to engage our teachers for 21st century learners?”
• No time for professional learning – sessions recorded and archived
• Don’t like to be out of the classroom so sessions are short about an hour - arrange for one sub to float to interested teachers classes
Rationale for the Project This approach addresses the common concerns
expressed by educators.
• Ongoing – because the learning continues throughout the year teachers are supported in their learning over time.
• Reflective practice – use a Moodle LMS to build an online community to support Professional Learning
• Having to travel to PLO sites – the online environment allows flexibility in time and location
• PD must be meaningful, focused yet flexible, use classroom teachers as presenters
• Personalizing learning for students/teachers
• Techno phobic – have to experience it before they adopt it
• Environment and understanding at senior admin level-firewalls, foip, patriot act, Canadian version SOPA, copyright, digital citizenship.
• Change in pedagogy – moving from expert to facilitator and co-learner
