All paint mediums accepted. Artists will paint “en plein air” at a variety of sites throughout the county during the 3 days of the event. Depending on the number of registered artists participating in the event, artists may be invited to bring to the event 1 or more works of art painted prior to the event. That work will be displayed at the Gilmer Arts Gallery, and be available for sale during the event. On the final evening, that previously created work, and selected works created “en plein air” during the event will be offered to the public during a live auction sale and reception. Any artist may opt out of the “previously completed” opportunity. Please note that works done prior to the event, and brought for display in the gallery, will be included in the auction. Pricing on those works should include a buy now price and an opening bid price that will be used at the auction to establish the starting bid. All works created during the event should also be assigned a value, and opening bid price. RULES: All previously completed works submitted must be ORIGINAL and have been produced within the last 3 years. All works must be suitably framed, professionally presented and in excellent condition on delivery. All pieces must have an estimated value and must be for sale. If not sold in the 3 days leading up to the auction, those pieces will be included in the auction on the final afternoon of the event. The dollar amount raised at auction less a 25% commission will be paid to the artist of the work. A portion of those proceeds from the sale of artwork will benefit the scholarship program, classes, and service provided by Gilmer Arts throughout the year. Hanging work must be framed or gallery wrapped, and firmly wired with the apex at least 2 inches from the top edge of the frame. No saw tooth hangers will be accepted. Event directors reserve the right to reject works that do not meet the criteria established in these rules. NO changes in titles or prices will be allowed after entry form is submitted. Event directors reserve the right to decline any work.

LOGISTICS • The hosted locations* will be available each day (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) at 8:30am for artists to paint. On Friday, painting

will end at 3:00 pm; artists proceed to a “Welcome” reception at Gilmer Arts, scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm. • On Saturday, painting will end at 2:00pm; artists proceed to Chateau Meichtry for the Quick Draw challenge. Quick Draw will begin promptly at 3:00pm and end at 5:00 pm, with judging beginning at 5:15pm, winner announced at 5:45-6 pm. Locations for the Quick Draw Challenge will include areas in and around the vineyard. Timers will be at each of the locations. • On Sunday, painting will end at 1:00 pm; artists proceed to Gilmer Arts for the live auction and closing reception. Set up of the auction will take place from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm. The public will be able to review the artwork prior to the auction from 2:30- 3:00pm. A “Best In Show” presentation will take place at 3:00pm, followed by the auction. Only works produced during the 3 days of the event are eligible for “Best In Show.”

Each artist is asked to select their first and second choice as to which hosted location they wish to be assigned. All assignments, however, will be based on a space available, first-come, first-served basis. Every effort will be made to honor the artists’ choices, but final assignments will be made by event directors to ensure balanced distribution of artists. Space will be limited, please register early.

*Hosted Location – A hosted location will be a site with a water station manned by event volunteers, and will have facilities available to the artists. Lunch for the artists will be delivered to the hosted locations .

LIABILITY:

All reasonable care will be exercised in the handling and exhibiting of work. Sole liability for the art rests with the artists.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY: May 18, 2018. Registrations will not be accepted after that date.

Include: A check for the entry fee of $35 should be made payable to Gilmer Arts. Cash and Credit Cards are also accepted. On acceptance, artists will be assigned to their hosted location. Space will be limited, so early registration is advised. Artists who bring previously completed works for display, and to be included in the auction, should submit a photograph or digital image (jpg only, 300 dpi) of the work along with their registration fee and the completed application. Documentation and photos should be sent to Gilmer Arts via traditional mail or via email ([email protected]) by the entry deadline date, May 18, 2018.

DELIVERY INFORMATION: Previously done artwork being brought for display and auction must be delivered on Thursday June 7th, between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm, or Friday June 8th, between 8:00 am and 11:00 am, to the Gilmer Arts Link 207 Dalton Street, Ellijay, GA 30540. Delivery of works and removal of works not sold at the event’s conclusion are the sole responsibility of the artist. NO WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 11:00 am JUNE 8TH.

Quick Draw Judge: Camille Day www.studiocamille.com AWARDS: Quick Draw Challenge, Saturday June 9, 3:00pm at Chateau Meichtry Vineyard and Winery – A First Place Cash Award of $500 will be presented to the winner of the timed challenge. Closing Reception and Auction, Sunday June 10, 3:00 at Gilmer Arts – A “Best in Show” Cash Award of $500 will be presented to the winner. 2019 Logo Design Contest - Plein Air, Art in the Mountains is excited to announce the 2019 Logo Design Contest. All artists registered for the 2018 Plein Air, Art in the Mountains event are eligible to enter a painting to be considered for the 2019 Plein Air, Art in the Mountains logo. The winning painting will be selected by the event committee. Criteria: Theme – A generic depiction (not site specific) of an artist painting “en plein air” in one of the locations listed for the event. Medium – Artists choice. Entry Deadline – August 17, 2018. Works may be painted during this year’s event, or submitted on or before the deadline from sketches done onsite, or from sketches or photographs after the event ends. The winner of the Logo Design Contest will be announced on September 7, 2018. The winning work will be used in the logo for the 2019 Plein Air, Art in the Mountains, and the artist will receive a complementary registration to the 2019 event.

General Information Continental Breakfast Continental Breakfast will be available each day from 7:30am till 8:30am at Gilmer Arts, 207 Dalton Street, Ellijay, GA.

Artists are required to paint at their assigned location on Friday and Sunday (note: Site assignments will rotate over the 3 days of the

event.

On Saturday (prior to the “Quick Draw” challenge, artists may choose to paint at one of the Alternate sites or a site of their choosing.

Artist must keep to the schedule, and be at Chateau Meichtry for the Quick Draw challenge promptly at 2:45.

Rules and Guidelines

• All artists agree to participate for all 3 days of the event.

• Each artist is assigned (by the event coordinating committee) to a “location” for the first day (Friday, June

9) of the event.

• Artists’ locations will be rotated (assignments determined by the event coordinating committee) on each

subsequent day of the event.

• On Saturday, June 10, the “Quick Draw” event (timed paint out) will be held at Chateau Meichtry.

• I will , will not , be participating in the Quick Draw challenge on Saturday June 9. If yes, each participating

artist shall bring their working easels to display their Quick Draw entry for judging at the assigned Chateau

Meichtry location.

• Please indicate if you will be bringing previously completed art for sale/display/auction (as described earlier

in these rules and information) at the event. Yes , No . All works brought for the pre-auction sale will

be displayed at Gilmer Arts and will then be included in the auction on Sunday, June 11.

Commission

• Artists receive 75% commission. Commissions will be paid by the end of the month (June 30) following the

close of Event.

Sales

• Prices for the artwork brought for the pre-auction display/sale may not be changed once submitted.

Applicable sale taxes will be added to all bills of sale.

Ownership

• All works belong to artist until sold.

Transportation

• Packing and shipping charges, insurance costs, other handling expenses, and risk of loss or damage incurred

in the delivery of Artwork to and from the event, shall be the sole responsibility of the Artist.

Ellijay, Georgia FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: GILMER ARTS IN COOPERATION WITH GILMER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PRESENTS: Plein Air, Art in the Mountains 2018 Ellijay, GA –Gilmer Arts is proud to host the 4th annual “Plein Air, Art in the Mountains Regional artists, working outdoors, "en plein air" in and around Gilmer County over a three-day weekend beginning Friday June 8th, and ending Sunday June 10th, creating art based on the stunning views and vistas of the beautiful north Georgia mountains. Works created during the event will be offered for purchase at the closing reception, during a live auction hosted at the Gilmer Arts Link Gallery, 207 Dalton Street, Ellijay, GA. In addition to the reception and live auction, other events a “Quick Draw” painting competition on the afternoon of the 9th, the selection of “Best in Show” winner, and more. Works created by the artist in advance of the auction will also be on sale at the Gallery during the 3 days of the event. In addition to the adult Quick Draw competition, Gilmer Arts will host a youth version of the event on Saturday morning June 9. Area children and youth, 8-18 will paint or draw in a timed challenge, from which winners in 3 age categories will be selected. Portions of the proceeds from sale of the artwork will benefit Gilmer Arts in its mission to provide opportunities and access to the arts in our community. The public is invited to visit each of the plein air locations, watch the artists as they work, enjoy and purchase the artwork, participate in the live auction, and enjoy the beauty that is Gilmer County.
