USTA & PICKLEBALLPeggy applied for a grant from the USTA to have courts 1-3 linedpermanently for 60 foot courts. We were approved and have these linesnow. Well summer is over. We had several fun events this summer including the introduction of our supperclub series featuring local chefs from around the Shoals area. The BBQ picnics for 4th of July andMemorial Day were big hits as usual. I hope everybody enjoyed the events that happened this summerand that we can keep the momentum rolling into the Fall. Be on the look out for some menu changesto be coming soon as well as BBQ to-go for tailgating. I look forward to seeing everyone as theweather cools off. 565

What a great Summer!

Now that the kids are back in school and the weather isbeginning to change, we are looking forward to some great eventsthis fall.

We resumed smoking meats for Saturday pick-up in September.We will continue this through football season (minus theSaturday after Thanksgiving). Submit your orders by Thursdayat 5pm by calling the Club.

We also have the return of our lunch specials with Wednesday’sspecial being created by Chef Angel, Thursday’s special being aclassic “blue plate” and Friday’s special alternating each monthbetween fried catfish and fried shrimp.

October and November will continue to see both SpeedLimit and First Friday Buffets, and Thursday Night ListeningRooms (October – James LeBlanc and Angela Hacker /November – Tim Cannon).

October 22nd Alabama Crown will sponsor a wine social.

October 23rd will be a Lunch N Learn with deLoain.

October 26th we will offer a kid-centric Halloween-themed buffet.

October 29th will be the finalinstallment of our Tuesday NightSupper Club. The guest chef is stillto be determined.

In November you can also look forward to our annualThanksgiving Day Buffet, as well as complete dinners to-go thatcan be picked up the day before.

December will see the return of Brunch with Santa, JazzBrunch, and a New Year’s Eve Dinner.

As I write this, I am looking back over the past 5 years of the Club’s financials and I am very pleased where weare as of today. Our “Summer” has officially come to a close with the passing of Labor Day and by all accountswas very successful and fun for all. Our membership levels are constant and we didn’t have the usual drop off lastFall – and don’t expect there to be any this Fall. The Board has been diligent on working us out of debt and nowour loans are under 1 million and we are on a schedule to be out of debt in 5 years. Operationally, the Club is doingbetter than last year by $40,000 at the end of July and should continue that trend until our fiscal year end,September 30.

Now that our debt service and operational challenges are under control it is time to be thinking about keepingour Club relevant in the coming years. We are now 60 years into the life of our Club and it is a hard truth that our facilities need to be upgraded.The charm and character of our Clubhouse is transitioning into a dated and non functional Clubhouse that is in dire need of attention both insideand out. The irrigation system has outlived its time and the cart paths are cracked and broken throughout the course. The Marina structure isrusting and in need of new poles, wood is showing its age against the weather and is rotting, and concrete pavers are cracked. And the list could– and will -go on. I am working on getting a Capital Plan presented to the Board either through a 3rd party consulting company with unbiasedviews, or by creating a Strategic Planning Committee that could dedicate the time to meet with Glen and myself on the Club as a whole entityand prioritize our needs and create a funding mechanism to meet these needs. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful Club on such abeautiful piece of property and I feel that it is my role to help position the Club to be here and viable for the next generation to take the reins.

Our Annual Meeting for all shareholders will be November 14th at 7:30 pm and I would encourage all shareholders to come out and get a preciseaccounting of the previous year and an overview of the years to come.

We have so much to be proud of here at Turtle Point and if I can ever be of any help please let me know.

As I write this, summer is endingand it’s time to start thinkingabout fall pre-emerge for ourbermuda grass, over seeding ourfescue and leaf removal. This yearwe are planning to use a herbicide

called specticle. Specticle is one of the better fall pre-emergeson the market today, with this application we are hopeful thatwe will not have to spray roundup during January, and it willcarry us into March.

We will start overseeding our fescue the 1st week of October.We overseed each year with a blend of the top performing tallfescue seeds on the market today. By using a blend, we have astand of fescue that is more resistant to brown patches anddrought, the two main issues we have with fescue in the south.After this is finished, our focus will turn to leaf removal. Leafremoval usually last until the 2nd week of December. Once weget to the 2nd week, most of the leaves will have fallen and theclean up will slow down substantially.

This fall we are also hopeful to get some cart path repair workcompleted. Our cart path need repair in several places due totree root damage. Although our paths are approaching 30 yearsold, they are in good shape if it’s not near a tree. As always,please remember to fix your ball marks, fill your divots andplease obey the cart rules.

GOLF CART RULES & REGULATIONS:

a. The Golf Course Superintendent is authorized to determine when the course is unfit for golf carts or play.

b. No more than (2) two people shall ride in or on a cart.c. Never drive within thirty yards of any green or bunker unless the cart is on the cart path.

d. Carts must remain on the cart paths on all par threes.e. Never drive behind or beside any green unless the cart is on the cart path.

f. Drive around all bare spots and newly sodded areas.g. Use the 90-degree rule when prudent, unless the carts are restricted to the cart paths.

h. Any person without a valid driver’s license is not allowed to drive golf carts.

i. Park with all four wheels on the cart path.

FLAGS are provided for those individuals who have aphysical handicap that requires the use of a golf cart to playgolf. A cart displaying a flag must stay at least 20 yards fromall greens. When carts are restricted to the cart paths, all cartsmust stay on the cart paths. 681

Dr. Rob Webb • CommodoreThe boaters have been busy this season, with eight traveling to Guntersville fortheir annual Labor Day event, the largest they’ve had with 206 people and 29boats visiting [21 from Chattanooga, 8 from TPYCC]; two from ChattanoogaYacht Club, which has 150 members, followed us home and availed themselvesof our reciprocal agreement to stay at our Marina for a couple of days. We willnow begin planning for our Club’s Summer Season Launch Party [aka BoatersWeekend] next April 17-18.

We hope to soon see some much needed major repair work completed onWilson Dock [there are four docks - Wilson, Wheeler, Pickwick, Natchez], caused by storm damage withseveral of the floating pilings and supports breaking away. We are also looking into methods to controlthe spider population, reported to be the worst in many years. Cameras are now covering alldocks/walkways to hopefully deter more vandalism.

Upcoming events: a group hopes to go to Chattanooga in November on a ‘Fall Color’ cruise; we will haveour annual Parade of Christmas Lights Sat. Dec. 14, followed by food and friendship on the Quarter Deck- any Club members who want to participate are more than welcome.
