Everyone Is Craning Their Necks To See The New Neighbors . . . Yes, it’s true, Plantation Village has new neighbors and they are a family of Sandhill Cranes. Let’s call them Mom, Dad, and Baby – what a wonderful sight for us to enjoy during this “stay at home” order. Perhaps you heard Mom and Dad long before you were able to see them. Sandhill cranes are known for their rolling trum-pet-sounding calls from long distances as these birds really like to hear themselves sing. The birds are very tall and quite elegant when you get a chance to view them up close. It is interesting to watch and see how Mom and Dad keep Baby between them as they meander through the park yards looking for something to eat. They
will feed on seeds, grains, and insects putting their long beaks into the sandy ground to find their breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Mom and Dad will mate for life and they will stay together year-round. Baby is smart and will stay with Mom and Dad for 9 to 10 months before going out on its own. We hope you got a chance to enjoy this beautiful family of sandhill cranes while they chose some family time here in Plantation Village. (P.S. The black bunny rabbit told them this was a great place to live and they agreed whole-heartedly.)

MERRy SINACOREHi, Everyone, In this time of great worry and concern we all are trying to keep safe. I believe if we continue to follow the guidelines set by the State and WHO we will be OK. We must not waver from what we have been doing; we must continue to safeguard ourselves and our friends and family. I know we are all tired of staying home and not going out. It is hard and not what we usually do. We must remember it is our home we are confined to, not a hospital. We as a group have always risen to the chal-lenge and of course met it head on. I remember when Irma was heading our way. We came together as a family and did what was necessary to make sure everyone was safe and our community was secure. This is a similar situation only now we are asked to extend our time in helping to keep our community and friends safe. We will come out on the other side and be stronger and better, for this is just a challenge, and how we conduct our-selves through this is what will define us. I know everyone will continue to keep safe and look forward to the celebration we will have when this is over.

PV MessagesMessage from Co-Op President
FRANk FIELDS Times have been a little tough lately. No one has experienced anything like what we are going through now. I think there is light at the end of the tunnel and we look forward to some type of normalcy. Hopefully we will be able to open the pool and clubhouse in a couple weeks so the residents can use them again. I, for one, am very, very happy that none of our residents have contracted the virus so far. Keep up the good work with social distancing because it is paying off. The business of Plantation Village continues on and every-thing is going well. There will be a new resident moving into 14 Peach in early May and we look forward to having them. As always look out for your neighbor.
Message from MHOA PresidentBARBARA DEARING
I wish writing my first article as MHOA President for the “Voice” were under different circumstances. These last two months have been scary, nerve-racking, and definitely not our normal lifestyle. But from what I have witnessed, our PV residents have been compliant. With the stay-at-home order, I have seen many walkers, people riding bicycles and many golf carts passing by, a true sign of cabin fever. Right now, the desire to socialize and get together has been replaced by the need to stay in and keep each other safe. In the end, it’s a newly assigned social responsibility we’re all in together and we will get through it. Wishing safe travels to all of you who will eventually head back home and hope that those who preceded you had un-eventful travels. It may be a long and boring summer, but let’s practice calm, caution and common sense. That’s the way we’ll all get through this outbreak and any that follow. Be careful and safe

PV UpcomingPlantation Village Dances
by Sharon Beaumont All our Social Activities were cancelled due to the coronavi-rus. Our health was much more important. The dance tickets sold for our St. Patty’s dance will be credited for another dance of the same value. Shirley Moser has the residents’ names and ticket numbers. Shirley is good at recording everything and counting money. I would like to thank all the volunteers who ran events and everyone who came out to help. Thanks to all the residents who support the events. Plantation Village is a very active park and enjoys having fun. The dances are already booked for next year. Our main concern now is for everyone to stay healthy and pray for an end to this virus. Have a safe drive if travelling home and a good summer.
Thanks, Sharon.

Under Quarantineby Kay Luczak
Yes, we are under quarantine BUT what a place to be under quarantine!! I see people riding their bikes, big smiles on their faces and looking great from the ride. I see people walking, many of course, who walk everyday (bravo) John. And, of course, Cindy and Gary and now I noticed Jean and Ernie Jones have joined the fantastic group of people who realize the best exercise is still walking. We have those on golf carts out in the morning or in the evening for that relaxing ride after dinner. Some have taken along their furry pets for that night air and a wonderful look at a sunset. And people waving from their porches as we ride by. We have Kenny over on Quince entertaining everyone within hearing distance with his wonderful music. He’s doing a great job. it’s lovely to hear the drift of music to our ears. I’ve seen many a smiley face. Happy to be here and happy to see another familiar face. I do not see any negative people; I have only seen positive people who have a positive outlook on being here and having a home to be in. I have seen many people willing to help anoth-er. I see them going to the store for you if needed or they are making you a meal. Which is oh so delicious and so wonderful when you didn’t have to do it; what a bonus that day is. This is a real community where it has really pulled together. We as a family all stick together, even though we are apart, we are together. I am not sure that there are many parks that can say the same thing. How lucky we were to have picked Plantation Village. Thank God we are here. Thank you to the board and staff for all you have done to keep each and everyone of us safe. God bless us all. If we have a little patience we will all make it through this . . . AND 6 months from now, it’ll just be a memory. OR as Mea says, a rainbow memory.

Easy Pineapple Upside-Down Cakeby Debbie Thornton
I thought it might be fun to tell a little story and post a recipe. We wouldn’t have enough room to post everyone’s favorite recipe every month, however, if you are willing to include a story or short article about the recipe or why it is special to you, please submit it to The Residents’ Voice by email to [email protected] and I will try to print one or two recipes each month. Here is my story: I started helping my mother bake cookies when I was a young girl – maybe 10 or 11 years old. My mother was a very patient woman who took the time to show me how to bake and how to cook along with all the secret tips and intricate details to ensure the recipe being followed would turn out to be just as it
should – delicious! She sparked an inter-est in me that was new and challenging and that I could immediately see success (and sometimes failure) after carefully following the written instructions. My favorite cookie recipe book is Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book (copyright 1963 by General Mills, Inc. First Edition/Third
Printing). This is the cookbook my mother used and which I still have today for all of our favorite cookie recipes. This book helped instill a passion in me for not only baking, but baking and cooking and giving to others. I would cut out different rec-ipes for desserts and dinners from magazines, collect recipes from friends and co-workers, and eventually adjusted some of those written recipes to my own tastes and writing my own tips in the margins of the paper. The most rewarding thing I get out of baking and cooking is seeing the smile on someone’s face after they bite into one of my homemade specialties. Following is an easy recipe for Pineapple Upside-Down Cake (which my husband, Regis, requests for his birthday cake) that looks fabulous when completed: Ingredients
2 cans sliced Dole PineappleMaraschino cherries¼ cup butter½ cup firmly packed brown sugar1 box Pineapple Cake Mix
Drain Dole Pineapple – will need 12 slices. Melt butter in pan, remove from heat and stir in brown sugar – spread evenly on bottom of 13 x 9 baking pan. (tip – add a little extra if needed). Arrange pineapple and cherries in sugar mixture. (I add cherries in the middle of the pineapples as well as in the spaces in between the pineapples). Prepare cake mix as directed on package and pour over all in pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Loosen edges of cake, cover with serving plate (I use cookie sheet or pretty tray), turn over and lift off pan (should slide out rather easily due to the butter used). Beautiful and delicious!

Humor HutTHE GOOD OLE DAyS
by Patricia Kness
Growing up, in the 40’sIn the winter, most always winter
In the middle of Minnesota,There was no need to worry
About the lack of soft quilted paperTo wipe our half-frozen B-Hinds.
For that I thank Sears & Roebuck,For the annual supply of a 3” thick
Wish Book, that Mom placed convenientlyIn the middle of the two holer,
Which was not so conveniently locatedOn a 30’ icy path, out the kitchen door.
I did worry though, when shivering in line,Hoping the current occupant wouldn’t get
Too involved in reading those precious pages,I needed to wipe my now fully frozen B-Hind.
Those were my Good Ole Days.
